Obviously Platinum lasts until end of feb, but is there any way to tell on 1 Jan whether it's been renewed?

You will receive a "congrats you requal'd" letter along with your new card (valid Feb 09) in the mail :cool:

mine took about 3 weeks to arrive after making the required q-points for Platinum renewal.
