i think I am reading Dave's AA Plat Tips correctly, however there is a lot at stake here and I want 110% assurance that I will get over the line

After next weeks trip I will be just under 500 qpoints short of exp and with no planned business travel for the rest of the year I will need to make a short self funded trip to get me over the line.

I was thinking of a quick day flight SYD-MEL-SYD using a red-e deal (O class).

So am I correct in assuming that I would receive 1,000 qpoints (500 each way) for the trip due to the minimum 500 qpoint rule?

AND NOT

219 qpoints (877miles*0.25)

Cheers All

Yes, a minimum of 500 qpoints is earned on all eligible segments and a QF O fare is eligible.

If you are just 500 short and just doing it for qpoints, you could save a few $ and do SYD-CBR and either use a hire car back, take a coach or fly back and it would be likely cheaper than a flight to MEL and back

hey good thought there Dave

never been on a dash 8 before - a round trip would save $40!

And make sure you've flown at least 4 segments on an AA flight number

cheers odoherty - i understand that they are currently not enforcing this?

also the fact that i requal'd for PLAT this year without flying any AA flight number segments tends to support this!

Can any one confirm?

There are no reports of it being enforced. I actually realised I have about 10 AA segments this year  but I qualified last year for Plat with Zero.

There seem to be mixed reports.
I will be over 50k qpoints by the end of this calendar year and have not flown any flights on AA - so I hope for everyone's benefit that they are not enforcing!

Are there any confirmed instances of people not being given status or just warnings from overzealous call centre staff?

well I logged onto AA.com today to check if my last flight had posted and YUP, there she was...

11/23/07 QANTAS AIRWAYS 803 Y SYD CBR 74 926 1,000

my balance now tipped the scales at 100,020 QPoints :D

however my jaw dropped when I noticed that my status still said 'PLATINUM' :(

either they ARE enforcing the "4 AA Segments" rule or the system just hasn't updated yet.......please be the latter!

Congrats! My change from Gold to Plat (documented in another thread) took a couple of hours, so yours will probably take as long.

You would be mighty p1ssed to get over the line only to find this rule enforced, although I probably didn't need to tell you that

Hope you get a favourable outcome.

well blow me down...............as soon as I finished my previous post I logged back on the double check and there it was:

Status: EXECUTIVE PLATINUM

I am now a happy man :p

Noice. Enjoy the eVIPs but remember ... in 36 days you'll be back to zero and the slog to 100k starts again :)

Dave

cheers guys

Hitting EXP is the icing on the cake for an awesome year of travel and something I really wanted to achieve. It has given me a taste of what drives the "hard core" flyer in the search for benefit maximisation while in the air!

Unfortunately, due to some significant changes at work all this is likely to change and I may never get to use those eVIPs or get that 100% bonus etc :(

However I am determined to Flounge it up next year with the family on our OS award trip and even perhaps a few SYD-ADL trips on the A330

Rock on...

Is there any way to tell if your status is renewed at the end of the year?

I'm currently Platinum and will have 50k qpoints by the end of the year, but no AA segments.

Obviously Platinum lasts until end of feb, but is there any way to tell on 1 Jan whether it's been renewed?

Congratulations on no longer being a Platinum AA member. You beat me by anbout 3 weeks to the ranks of being ex-Platinum :p .

Not that I can tell; if you have the 50k qpoints or qmiles then I wouldn't be worried about it though
