Minimum Connection Time SIN

I have just booked an award ticket SYD-SIN-DXB on SQ. The transit time in SIN is 55 minutes only.
Obviously we and our baggage have to change aircraft.
Should I be concerned at all with this or is this a regular occurrence with SQ?

I think it is 45 mins. Assuming your inbound is not late, you will make the connection, but you may have to rush a bit esp if you have to catch the train between terminals. Your baggage will be labelled "hot" so the baggage handlers at Sin know what to do.I assume it is one ticket so Sq will sort something out if you miss the connection but the next flight Sin to Dxb may only be the next day.

If it's all on one ticket, I'd personally be fine with it. I'm assuming you're coming in on SQ212, which has very good on time performance. I wouldn't be mucking about checking out the butterfly garden but it wouldn't stress me too much...

And there will most likely be SQ ground staff holding a board with names of connecting passengers?

Usually on approach into SIN with SQ, the IFE will update with info on your arrival gate and the departure gates for connecting flights. If you're concerned, download a map of SIN prior to leaving and work out where you need to go before you even get off the inbound flight.

Didn’t think of the IFE so that gives me a

You will be fine
You will arrive into T3 and depart from T3

You could ask if SQ could move you to an earlier flight but that would mean arriving the day before as 212 is the first SQ flight to sin of the day. This might work if you ask for an "stopover" for a small fee or points.

Or get the "stopover" for free if delayed

I have a connection time of 50 mins which I understand is the MCT for SQ at Changi. The on time performance for my aircraft in has been very good but of course it only takes one delay.

There are a few earlier flights I could get to make things more comfortable but would SQ actually move me for free? I doubt it so given its one ticket hopefully SQ sorts something reasonable if there is a delay.

My main worry are my bags surprisingly. I am assuming SQ gets it right to get me on my flight just worried my bags might not be soo lucky

If you were able to book it in the first instance, it would've been a legal connection, now that you want additional buffer, its effectively a flight change from you, depending upon the conditions attached with your ticket, this may involve a change fee + any difference in fare.

No, I know. I had seen it mentioned earlier in the thread about asking for a change. I dont intend to ask as I expect a fee. The fare I booked had this as the connecting flight all on one ticket so its perfectly allowable. I am comfortable with it. I only worry about my bags really and even then its only a slight concern. Who knows, I might even be crazy bold and try to get away with a cabin bag only.

If there is one ground crew/airport where your bags have the highest chance of making it, SIN will be right up there. I've only ever had 3 connections which were 50mins-60 mins, 1 with SQ in SIN, 1 with CX in HKG and once with MH in KUL. Only MH/KUL managed to miss my bags, luckily they had another departure to BKK later that day, so it wasn't too bad, but the uncertainty over your luggage is certainly one thing you don't need.

If you can make the connection, your bags will! Changi's baggage system is one of the best and as I have said upthread, they will place a "hot" tag on your bag when you check it in, indicating a short transit time at Sin.

I’ve had 55 minute transits in SIN before and just booked another one for Nov. I’ve never had problems connecting before but I know people who have been on a similarly short connection in SIN and have missed their connection and Sq just put them on the next flight. They were flying J and there were no J seats so SQ gave them a voucher for a future upgrade.

I would say the risk of checked bags misconnecting is higher than for the passenger.
Even with the hot tag, it happened to me

* my feeling is that post Covid Changi is not nearly quite as efficient as pre Covid, especially with regards to baggage handling. Previously it was mostly the bags arrived at the belt before I do, not so much these days

I have done this flight and the short connection time is fine and doable…had to change terminals but the skytrain was pretty quick and so I arrived at the gate and even had time to sit and have a chat with my cousin who was meeting me in Sg for the flight to Dubai. Your bag tag will have HOT marked on it which indicates to the handlers that there is a short connection time. I did not bother with heading to the lounge as I was meeting my cousin so we as easier to meet at the gate but I reckon I would have had enough time to swing past the lounge for a quick drink (was very thirsty for some reason)…

I agree…I have heard they have not been able to get enough baggage handlers at the airport. On a recent trip, we waited almost an hour for our bags to come out and the weather (rain) was given as the reason but interestingly, a couple of carts appeared quite quickly after delay announcement was made with water, milo and biscuits for waiting us passengers waiting for our bags…made me wonder if the baggage handler shortage was the real reason….
