Hi,
Was hoping something could help me with this. I swore I woud never do a mileage run.... but here goes.

I was calculating my AA EQPs the other day, and realised (I think) that I am only 6000 EQPs short of EXPLAT on AA. I already have QF WP status for 2007, so never really thought I would need the EXPLAT status on AA as well, but now I am thinking that I could make use of those eVIPs after all.

So, my current posted balance on my AA account is 78,895 EQPs. On Friday I also completed LHR-HKG-SYD on CX in BC (I category) , which have not yet posted. I think that this is worth about 16000 qpoints. Could anybody confirm this. I did call the AA number, got thru to an Indian call centre, and was told it would be about 10500 points, which I queried, but she wasn't able to help me any further.

So, I have held a SYD-HNL-SYD flight, AA codeshare (QF metal), leaving tomorrow. The fare category is V on AA (not QF). I think this will give 1 qpoint per mile, and 100% mileage, which would get me comfortably over the 100,000 qpoints needed for EXPLAT (if my CX calculations are correct). Again, can anybody confirm this. I would hate to have spent around $2000 on this mileage run (or qpoint run?) only to have miscalculated.

Regarding payment of the ticket, what would be the best number to call? I have looked around and most people seem to recommend the Aust number. But what is it? Does anybody have the direct number? Preferably one that doesn't go thru to India.

Thanks for your help...

QF V class earns 0.5 Qpoints per mile flown. ...

If flying on a QF flight number and crediting to AA the following applies:

Discount Economy Classes: M, V, L, R

Mileage Accrual Percentage: 50%

Elite Qualifying Points Per Base Mile Earned: 1.00

Elite Qualifying Points Per Base Mile Flown: 0.5

If flying on an AA Flight number on QF metal and Crediting to AA the following is true:

Discount Economy Classes: M, V, L, R

Mileage Accrual Percentage: 100%

Elite Qualifying Points Per Base Mile Earned: 1.00

Elite Qualifying Points Per Base Mile Flown: 1.0

As the OP is traveling on an AA flight number code shared on QF metal the latter applies and 1 qpoint per mile flown will be earned.

based on your description, after a run to HNL, methinks you can look forward to becoming an ex-platinum member with a bunch of eVIPs to enjoy

I would suggest using the UK number to pay for the ticket since that will avoid having to send a fax with a credit card authorisation. +44 207 365 0777

Thanks all for your help with this. I am in HNL now. The CX points have posted from last week, and is only showing 5200 qpoints needed. Last nights flight gets about 5000, and the return flight should push me over the 100,000.

Was a real pain getting the ticket issued with AA (unfortunately I didn't receive Dave Noble's post about the UK office until a couple of hours too late).

I held the flights online, and then called an AA number in Mascot. They gave me the infamous "Aust" number, ie the call centre in India, to arrange payment. Got thru to the call centre in India (its around 2.30 on day before travel) the staffer seemed okay. They sent me the c/c forms a few minutes later, and I emailed them back (as per their instructions) by about 3pm. At 5.30pm I called back to see that all docs had been received, as I hadn't been sent the itinerary. Got a really dumb one then. Was told to wait 2 or 3 more hours, even though I really tried to get him to check, or have him put me thru to somebody who could check.

You can guess the rest. Woke up at 5am on the day of travel, checked my account at aa.com, only to find that the ticket had auto cancelled, as it hadn't been paid. Tried the call the Aust (Indian) number, but call centre was closed for another 4 hours. Called US reservations, and 30 mins later they couldn't find any payment, nor could they rebook me at the same price. The staffer asked me why the Indian office was handling my booking! Doh.

Finally call the AA Mascot number at 9am. Again, they can't find payment. I forward her the email with the forms that I had sent yesterday, and she agrees that the email address was correct, and that they should have received & actioned it. But now is too late, and wants to charge me an extra $600 to rebook. Argue for 5 minutes..... she comes back, and honours the original price....

Next time, will just call the uk office to pay over the phone!

So, I will really make sure I use all of those eVIPs.

Thanks again.
