Found a link to this on another forum but I expect any Mileage Plus members have heard it directly:
>>As of March 1, 2015, the award miles you earn on most United and United Express[SUP]® [/SUP] tickets will be based on your ticket price (that is, base fare plus carrier-imposed surcharges) instead of the distance you fly, so members will be rewarded for their travel spending on United. And when you have Premier[SUP]® [/SUP]status, you’ll earn even more. <<

Let's hope no other FF programmes copy the idea. OK perhaps for business travellers, but not so good for occasional leisure travel.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

That was announced much earlier this year and several airlines already use that model. Notably VA and DL

Not to mention America West (aka American Airlines) which will be following suit shortly. Can't have one of the "Big-3" out of step!
