Middle East Airspace Diversions/Cancellations

So as I had a Qantas based reward flight on May 31 I assume that it can only be changed to another date if there is a F award seat on QFF rewards from HND-DXB-AMS? Which basically means never?

So choices are to take the risk on that date or cancel?

You’re governed by the emirates rebooking policy.

At the moment, theyre offering a refund or a free date change up to June 15, for tickets with a departure date to 31 May. Emirates | Fly Better

That 15 June date might move out in the coming weeks, allowing you to rebook for later.

You still have to contact qantas as the agent to make the change, but QF will follow the EK policy.

That sounds too generous to be true, and even if Emirates applied that policy I doubt QF would follow it. Sorry to be cynical, but I cannot vouch for the kindness or leniency of QF.

Qantas is not operating the flights. Qantas has ‘sold’ you those seats as the AGENT of Emirates.

You are governed by the emirates conditions and contract of carriage.

Qantas doesn’t have a choice in the matter. If EK’s rebooking policy is ‘x’, as agent, Qantas has to follow that.

QF has consistently applied its own rebooking and commercial policies in times or emergency or natural disaster. Even rebooking award seats into revenue classes.

"Qantas doesn’t have a choice in the matter. If EK’s rebooking policy is ‘x’, as agent, Qantas has to follow that."

Okay. So it means I can actually consider delaying my flight into June, which changes things to say the least. I will monitor the situations and plan accordingly.

BTW, how hard is booking accommodation and transport in Japan during Golden Week?

You should be fully across all your options, and where those options arise. If you are going to call qantas for a date change for exapmle, make sure you have the relevant emirates policy in front of you you.

Note that while the booking window is currently 15 June, that could be brought forward if EK resumes its schedules.

Just keeping an eye on our flights to MAD.

We have a paid EK flight, SYD-DXB-MAD
and a Plab B
QF CR flights SYD-SIN-LHR-MAD

We have entered the fee free cancellation window for EK (our preferred flight)
I just wondered at what point EK notifies passengers that the flight is cancelled.
a week before, 2 days before.
Don't want to find we missed getting a refund by hanging on to see if the flight takes place..

OK, so even if Qantas are forced to abide by Emirates rules for date changes and reroutings (!) of award flights, Emirates did state that they are still subject to paying the fare difference.

So it could be applied that the nominal value of a first class redemption flight is $0, and that the full fare of the changed date fare be charged. What about rerouting? The same? Or merely difference in cost of FF miles? My flight is May 31 from HND-DXB-AMS, but I wanted to go on June 12 on MEL-DXB-LHR instead. What would happen?

Did you book before or after April 2?

From the link posted by Clifford: For flights until May 31, you can rebook without any fees, and even change the destinations. If you change a flight booked after April 2 for travel past May 31, the change fee is waived, but you may have to pay a higher fare and cannot change the destination (without paying a fee).

Seems if you booked after April 2 you’ll be subject to any fare differential,

But you need to check the exact application with respect to award tickets. EK will have that inflrmation for you, QF will then follow that policy.

"Did you book before or after April 2?"

No. I booked it well in advance, probably 10 months, so July last year.

Now I understand that you can only reroute your flight from the same origin to the same region as before. So the same region as Amsterdam. So is, for example, London in the same region as Amsterdam? Anywhere in Europe? Beyond Europe? So no changes to origin (Tokyo)?

Where is EK saying that you have to pay the fare difference?
OK, I now understand that no fare difference needs to be paid because the flight was booked well in advance, in July of last year. Now just need to know what extent of rerouting is permissible.
