Middle East Airspace Diversions/Cancellations

The other day I noted that Dubai looked to be getting some semblance of returning to normal, while Qatar was still a ghost town.

Here's a snapshot from just now. Plenty of traffic into DXB. Abu Dhabi seems to be picking up a bit, and even Doha has some services arriving.

A few weeks ago, the ME3 were reportedly losing $1.2B per week between them. Looking a lot healthier now.

My friend is now at DXB concourse B for his flight to Australia and the same A380 aircraft also operated into DXB from Australia a few days ago

I'd like to see this with seats instead of flights

Looking at QF - can fly SYD-LHR tomorrow for a bargain via DXB. Cheapest non-ME option is connecting to BA in LAX for about 4x the price.

That Doha plot at the start looks really dodgy. Departures clearly exceed arrivals on every day for quite a period. Where did all the departing aircraft actually come from? Other than small variations for parking / maintenance etc., and especially with the volumes involved, you would expect to see departures and arrivals pretty much balanced. I would be more interested to see the underlying figures than just the graphs.

Abu-Dhabi on the other hand must have been stacking them somewhere. The graph looks like around 30 or so more aircraft were arriving per day than were leaving - over 11 days. Thats a lot of planes accumulating.

Although a slightly different metric than the previous graph, this one strikes me as more accurate. Certainly looks closer to what FR24 is showing.

I did read somewhere that Doha were sending some planes to some place in Spain so there could be a difference but it does seem high.

Am i crazy that still rather fly via DXB, not planning on leaving the airport.

Many would say yes.

Noting that should you fall ill, or your luggage be lost or things get worse and you get stuck there for much longer than your planned transit, you will not be covered by any TI as you are knowingly transiting somewhere on the Do Not Travel list.

For example, if flying on 30 April could you cancel 2 days before and still get a refund?

Yeah, but I’d do it. I flew in and out of KBL for six years, so also a member of the crazy club. You won’t be there long which dials down your risk quite a lot.

It was less than a day for me to cancel my QR flight on Monday, done through a travel agent. But obviously check the your particular airline’s offer.
