I would think refuelling would also be a big problem. Sri Lanka has already introduced as 4 day week for public employees and a fuel quota system due to fuel shortages.

Might be a gambit for a preferential fuel arrangement?

QR...what can I say, looks like they're preparing to close down operations yet won't allow fee free cancellations into April or May like other ME3 airlines are doing. FFS give your customers the flexibility. And don't get my started on VA just ditching customers that have booked QR flights though them.

Qatar Airways has extended its flexible rebooking and refund policy until April 30, 2026.
You can rebook twice free of charge for travel until May 31, or get a refund for the unused value of the ticket.

Jet fuel will be completely separate to those restrictions. The main problem will be getting jet fuel to Sri Lanka.

It would be good to see Sri Lanka utilized more as a hub between Australia and Europe. It's definitely more half way than SEA or the ME.

This is why I'm holding off re-booking my flights for my European Holiday for April-May. No point going overseas if there is going to be a fuel / energy crisis, which in turn has other knock-on effects. It will also take months to get most of the supply back online again.

The USS Tripoli should arrive in the northern Arabian sea by early next week. So by this time next week we will get a better understanding of just how much longer this mess is going to go on for. I feel the US has been waiting for the USS Tripoli to arrive before they escalate things more. Their objective is to secure the Strait of Hormuz. Replacing the Iran regime is in the too hard basket, something they should've realised before launching an attack...

I have flights to Europe in May, assuming we still get there we're considering to ditch the hire car and use trains. It's already close to $4/L for petrol over there. Fuel prices in Europe - Tolls.eu

Though we might also be able to get EV over there much easier than here.

Sadly, my Euro itinerary was a road trip around parts of Eastrern Europe that are not well serviced by trains. Even, if I were to get over to Europe, the next dilemma is the petrol prices and the supply of petrol...

Also make sure the trains are electric. Diesel could be problematic...

Even electric could be an issue depending on production (Gas plants) Italy and Belgium particularly could be in for a shock
