Middle East Airspace Diversions/Cancellations

Thanks! Family are also concerned about us being in Europe during this time and return leg to Aust. Been lucky to travel most years to Europe, hopefully things will settle down 🤞 🤞
Everyone is different but personally I would go without concern. If things markedly deteriorate to the point where ME flying is actually dangerous, alternatives do both exist and will be made available. Even for QF1/2, the A380 has long legs...

QF is flying north of Iran and not in the missiles flight path to Israel. Basically what they all did.
SQ 222 flight path.

Same as QF 1 flight path.

But on the 21st June it went south. As did BA16 but not SQ 222.

If I was booked on one of those flights I would still go.

As to traveling in Europe Terrorist attacks have occurred on many occasions. Certainly Iran may push for more attacks but the counter terrorism units would be on a higher degree of alertness. I don't think Australia is immune from such acts.

To be honest unless you are prepared to go via North America, anywhere from Oz to Europe could potentially fly over a shaky area right now.

If that’s the level of risk tolerance I’d probably be more inclined to refine the via North America bit to restrict it to Canada or indeed travel via Chile or South Africa. I’m not sure which is a higher risk - QF or other carriers flying over a few stans and the Caspian Sea or US making itself including its airports, a target for state sponsored terrorists.

Not to say I’m suggesting these three options. Perhaps if people are that risk averse better to stay at home.

US military presence is building here daily ahead of TS in a fortnight. Will end up with nearly 20k of US troops on our soil by then.
Each to their own but nothing about this conflict so far would lead me to avoid the ME

Oh this scares me so badly- we’re due to head to Paris for our own wedding (!) via Malaysia and Doha. Booked on QR ticket out of KL but first leg is on MH codeshare. I know it’s entirely coincidence but boarding a MH plane for all towards a war zone does not sound like my idea of a relaxing wedding trip. And I fear that while QR will probably fly as long as they possibly can, Malaysia might get silly ideas… :(

Easy to say from the cheap seats, but don't overthink it with emotion. If QR stop flying, then we will all have far bigger problems to deal with.

Besides, Paris is easy to get to if you really need to avoid the ME. Go via China, US or Canada.
