It seems MH are now offering "pay up" to better meals in economy, MH gourmet, for medium-long haul flights (including Australia, China, India, Europe, North Asia, Middle East). Cost is MYR 70, about $23 AUD. A number of other airlines (KLM, Airfrance) also do this. Selections include lamb cutlets, beef cheeks, chicken cordon bleu, piccata prawn, cod teriyaki, and beef redang.

Don't think so, unlike AA or AB, MH already serve a decent in flight hot meal on these sectors, so this is not an upgrade from a snack->hot meal or nothing->snack, this is a supposedly better hot meal.

thanks for the post have a flight back from Europe in October and will try and organise this for my parents.

Thanks for sharing, I have a return flight ADL-LHR in a couple of weeks.

Honestly though I find the food on MH to be quite enjoyable (although they have definitely cut back on the snack/meal options for long haul flights over the past few years) and 70RM for a more 'premium' meal a waste of money (especially considering how cheap food in KL is), I'd rather just get something in the airport.

Don't forget you can also order a celebration cake for RM250.
