MH goes dry on short haul flights

I would think it's the MH razor gang trimming costs

It's obvious. And to the J-cabin it's NOT the way to do it.

Pax can't even buy a wine or beer. Even the LCCs, even the Malaysian ones, will sell it.

I agree. But my original point stands - most pax on MH are going to be Malaysian (especially on short haul), so its easier to get away with this move. Does anyone imagine that QF could have got away with such a move when they were losing money? In Australia there would be riots among the pax if alcohol was removed altogether.

I don't think this is true. Most of the airlines that fly under the Air Asia banner do not serve alcohol. Air Asia X, the long haul operation, is an exception, but Air Asia, Thai Air Asis and Indonesia Air Asia, as far as I know, do not sell alcohol.

Fair point. I've been on dozens of short haul MH flights. The domestics seem mostly local and have been alcohol free (and food free for flights under 1 hour - except for peanuts) for as long as I have flown them. But the internationals seem to be quite a mix. I've observed that alcohol consumption seems to be pretty modest in both classes. But it's certainly been enjoyed by very many pax.

I still think it's a mistake. And out of alignment with MH's full service carrier competitors.

The poor cabin crew on J-class dinner flights must be getting quite a few complaints!

MH does seem to be doing a lot of silly things lately.

You're right. Sorry, I was getting my LCCs mixed up. I thought I had purchased it on regional Air Asia. I've for sure purchased it on regional Jetstar.

Not good news but I guess I can do without a beer for an ~1-2 hour flight.

You can purchase alcohol on Thai Air Asia. From memory it was 90 baht for can of Tiger. Think it was Tiger.

But won't fly VA because they don't provide 2 beers on a 1-2 hour flight.

Won't fly Virgin for a lot more reasons than their inability to get through a simple snack and beverage service on a 1 hour flight.

Good thing I found a much easier way to get Velocity Gold status without the need to fly 40 VA sectors/year. That was torture, and still is torture, the year I earned VA Gold.

Lucky you didn't get to VA gold through xASA's hey? </off topic>

I'm about to do MH KUL-BKK and BKK-KUL both in J.

I note there have been lots of complaints about the new policy.

And I will be adding mine on both flights.

Ridiculous.
