I think it's official:
saw on MH.com booking engine that A380 scheduled to begin on 26 Sept 2012.
"Inaugural" in F anyone?
Redemptions are still available, at least when I looked last night. :p
Bargain at 46,750 miles, esp with Amex's current transfer offer!

What are the taxes, they can be a killer with MH.

Historically yes, MH was diabolical with taxes. The others have now caught up and/or exceded MH. (eg MH taxes for SYD-LHR return in ... from $860 in Y to $1060 in F. QF taxes now $1020 in Y and $1160 in F)

Some conjecture on config coming from airline route:
Malaysia Airlines to Launch 487-Seater Airbus A380 Service to Sydney from late-Sep 2012 | Airline Route

As per 13MAR12 GDS inventory display, Malaysia Airlines starting 25SEP12 is launching Airbus A380 service on Kuala Lumpur – Sydney MH123/122 service. The A380 aircraft will operate Daily, replacing Boeing 747-400 aircraft. With the latest replacement, MH’s remaining Boeing 747-400 scheduled operation is Kuala Lumpur – London Heathrow MH004/001 service.
Despite the airline’s claim to carry 494 seats on A380, the airline’s seat map for SYD service is displaying 487 seats, same as London Heathrow flight (see report on 05JAN12).
Schedule:

MH141 KUL0900 – 1850SYD 772 D
MH123 KUL2210 – 0800+1SYD 380 D
MH122 SYD1400 – 2030KUL 380 D
MH140 SYD2140 – 0420+1KUL 772 D
MH122 from Sydney sees A380 service from 26SEP12, replacing 747-400

The upper deck economy seat spacing looks interesting… 2-4-2 as oppose to lower deck 3-4-3, or am I reading the images wrong?

In their original delivery A380's SQ has this configuration of 2-4-2 - it has a nice mini cabin feel to it, although the seats are no wider as the cabin is narrower than downstairs to begin with.

+1 took the Y mini cabin on SQ recently - it feels like PE, extra space at the window, nice quiet cabin with prompt service. Walking downstairs, Y seems like a cathedral by comparison!

Agree - having experienced both I'd rather have the upper deck Y section.

If you can score the emergency exit row, then you're all set.

Interesting that the MH F redemption is so low! You'd think it'd be higher than a mere 47k, even for one way going to SE Asia only and stuff the fact they taxes are backbreaking. (Wish Enrich had points tables - their online calculator is very coughbersome). Too bad I don't have anywhere near that number of points to sweep into Enrich.

I was in KL earlier this week and the local paper was advertising A380 flights as of July 1. Presumably these will be KUL-LHR and return. So, if you're eager to get an early look at the MH version of the A380, you could try to get on the LHR leg from July onwards.

Will be in KUL late September so might see if I can sneak onto one of these MH birds and take a ride to SYD ;) BTW is J 180degree flat?

This will add too what is becoming a very busy 6AM-10AM schedule of A380's into Sydney . 2 X QF , 2 X SQ , 1 X EK & 1 X MH . How many gates at Sydney are currently equipped to take an A380 ?

I think yes on A380 (but most definitely not on B772):

The First Class cabin has a luxurious seat pitch of 85 inches with 87 inch full flat bed seats complemented with individual 23 inch inflight entertainment (IFE) screens whilst the Business Class cabin features a seat pitch of 74 inches and full flat bed seats each measuring 72 inches in length together with individual 17-inch IFE screens.

The following bays are A380 capable:

4A, 5, 9, 10, 24, 57, 61, 72.

Now if it was many AN124s there would be a problem, as Sydney has one bay AN124 compatible 2A.

Of course, can’t believe that didn’t cross my mind
