Some trips almost book themselves - some feel like an endurance test. This trip is certainly in the latter category.

5 weeks, 4 countries, 16 flights, 13 hotels, 2 hire cars, and a coughpleaños Especial :)

The flights are a mixed bag of award and revenue..... including F, J and Y on QF, AA, AM, and 9N. The F flight is long at 15.5hrs and the Ys are short .... .mostly < 45mins

The hotels include SPG, Hyatt, boutique, luxury and rustic. We'll be enjoying street food along with *** establishments.

The itinerary includes cities, beach, jungle, colonial, ancient and modern.

It should be fun!

Q on ATM... the weather is going to be around H 28c and L 20c. When you did ATM were you wringing wet a long time? We're all pretty keen to do it, but I'm not that fussed if we end up getting sick the first week of a 5 week trip.

It was not an especially hot day when I did it (maybe high 20s), but the weather can be changeable. It started off cloudy with some drizzle but walking back to the parking area from ATM it was sunny. I was wearing Columbia quick-dry hiking shirt and shorts and dried off quite quickly, so I would recommend that type of clothing. It is the tropics and the water in the river and cave is not cold. It really is something special IMHO, so unless there was a very unusual high-chill factor, I would say don't miss it.

Another option might be to use a waterproof bag to carry a spare shirt or a travel towel but I can't recall anyone going to any special lengths to stay dry or get dry quickly.

You will need to wear reefwalkers, hiking sandals or sneakers you don't mind getting wet in and out of the water. Underneath is not very sharp but just a bit too rough and obscured to be comfortable for bare feet.

Thanks for the detail response. Your review will push me over the line.... of course the kids are "as keen as mustard" no matter how wet or cold.

I was going to post our itinerary in the normal manner, but decided it was a poor effort to express why we’ve selected the places we’re visiting.

I’m confident these photos will do a better job than any words...
