Mexicana now a member of oneworld!

Plenty of info and marketing guff on the oneworld website:

oneworld - News
oneworld - News

I can't find detailed fare information yet, but there is a new Visit Mexico and Central America fare:
oneworld - News

(*ONE* and *GLOB* fares are yet to be updated from what I can see)

Now, the bit that makes this relevant to QFF - the earning table for MX has been updated as follows:

Code:
Booking Class	Cabin Class	Base	Bonus
---------------------------------------------
BHKLMNOQSVY	Economy 1	-
CDJ Business 1	25%

The earning table goes on to say that Status Credits are earned on all eligible booking classes. Excluded: Points and Status Credits are not earned on Codeshare Flights operated by airlines other than oneworld Alliance Airlines.

The complete Oneworld website has now been updated with appropriate images and links too. The logo header is a lot fatter now.

And not a minute too soon, eh? :P

:p That's certainly true!
I'll endeavour to do a proper trip report on my upcoming MX flights :) The lounge at MEX looks quite nice!

Re: Mexicana now a member of oneworld!

The FFP looks quite generous too, and easy to attain premium tiers.

Mexicana GO

Easy to attain, especially by segments. 90 EQS for Oneworld Emerald. 100 EQS are needed for AAdvantage, or LAN, up to 140 for QFF.

25,000 EQP/30 EQS = Explore = Oneworld Ruby (25% bonus)
40,000 EQP/50 EQS = Discover = Oneworld Sapphire (50% bonus)
80,000 EQP/90 EQS = Conquer = Oneworld Emerald (75% bonus) [not 90k]

Appears that bonuses are only earnt on Mexicana though.

Don't know that I would call it generous though... One neat quirk is that is cheaper for two one-ways in Business Australia-NZ, rather than a return.

but no lounge access... (or am I wrong there?)

Alas you are right (didn't think of that, despite being landed on an AA code on AS metal a few weeks ago).

Yes, hurry up and join OW (Although AS have shown it's possible to be doing just fine with no alliance tie-up, but that said, their Customer Service is way ahead of most American carriers). :)

I was thinking even by miles it was pretty generous. Only 80k miles/points for Emerald.

Interestingly it also gives NZ and LH lounge access, which isn't too shabby for a Oneworld member (though I do wonder how much longer that'll last). And like CX, Ruby gives you access to it's own lounge network, though I doubt anyone posting here will be based over there!

Mexicana's Borja extols oneworld's benefits

From ATW Daily News:

Grupo Mexicana CEO Manuel Borja expects that the carrier's membership in oneworld will strengthen its "position considerably in an increasingly competitive marketplace" and boost international passenger traffic by 5%-7%.

Dreaming of SYD-MEX-SYD

Happy wandering

You beauty! Noticed that some tickets I had booked CUN-HAV-CUN (op by Mexicana Click) weren't showing up in my QFF until now.

Checking the Airline Earing Table on Qantas which has been updated and I'll be earning miles/SC on them when before they were excluded because they were Click flights

Would the QF 744/744ER (or 380) have the legs given the restriction on TOW out of MEX 9given the altitude)? There'd also be a landing weight restriction as well.

It is about 600 miles shorter than LAX.
And MEX-PPT-SYD is about 10 miles longer than non-stop
BA flies a 744 LHR-MEX

Perhaps it is just the thought of some more competition for QF

But I wander again

Fred

Competition is (usually) good for the consumer.

I'll have a seach around and see if I can work out MTOW for a 744 out of MEX as that'd answer the question - 600mi is a fair bit, but whether that's shorter enough to make it feasable?

I'm quite intrigued by the SYD-MEX-xx_ possibilities now the MX is a OW partner.
