Bit of an embarrassing question, but I just trawled the web site and can't see the answer.

Is status determined by nights/points on a calendar year, or rolling-year basis ?

And while I'm at it, does Gold status entitle you to Advantage Plus? Again, I can't see that it does but I have a friend who says he has AP because he is Gold (ie doesn't apply for it separately).

RooFlyer, I pay an annual fee to be Advantage Plus (currently GOLD ) which gives 1 free night plus discounts on food, upgrades etc etc as well as garnering points which can be transferred to QFF or redeemed for more free stays. Not sure if the normal loyalty program based on nights stayed does this?. I have also wondered whether I need to stay a certain number of nights each year or risk dropping back to silver. So far the nights just continued to accumulate over the years and I still have a little way to make Plat.

As per the terms and conditions:

Access to Status levels is based on the Member's activity over the
preceding 12 months (365 days)

Advantage Plus is a paid subscription program that does give you Silver Status, the Ibis Business card gives you Gold for a cheaper outlay but without the free night.

... and status lasts 365 days ... earn on April 11th and if you don't re-qualify it expires after April 30th a year later

Thanks everyone. The Advantage Plus friend thing I think I can discount, but how do I interpret this from the Accor 'My Account':

Accor.JPG

19/1 was the date of my last earn, so the points anniversary is OK, but my Gold Status is good to 31/12/15, implying a calendar year status year. I guess I may have joined on January 1st a while back; can't remember but seems unlikely. But lets assume that its correct.

Now, note it says 33 nights or 7336 points to Platinum (from Gold). But for statuses the web site tells me:

Accor 2.JPG

I earned 2,664 points on that last stay, so 7336 points I can understand, but if my status is valid until 31/12/15, shouldn't the hurdle to Platinum be 17,336 points and something like 58 nights? But they say I have 27 nights under my belt already. I guess its pointing to a NON end-of year status point, as everyone suggested, and somehow the 31/12/15 date is ... ?wrong?

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Did you achieve Gold on Jan1 at some stage?

Pretty sure not ... I am at beach house that time of year; last time I had an Accor stay in December was in Vietnam in 2011, on the 19th, and I'm pretty sure I didn't make Gold for the first time until the following year.

But lets say the system slipped and that stay put me up to Gold, with anniversary on 31 December. Wouldn't that mean that I re-qualified most recently on 31/12/14 and have to start the greasy pole all over again ... and my Plat hurdle would be the full 60 nights, 25,000 points from 1 January? That's what I can't get my mind around - unless the system says use your Gold as a platform, and the Plat hurdle is incremental, not start again.

From memory its a floating 365 days, like Velocity, so any activity in that period falls under the banner of being qualifying.

Thanks; yeah, I was trying to think of it like Velocity (but failed :() , and that's probably the key.

So in my case, if, say, I had a 27 night stay in January 2014, ending on 31 January, if I had no more stays this January, come 1 February all of a sudden my 'required nights for Platinum' would shoot up to 60. I think that makes sense (big call, given it's a French system).

It is a rolling 365 days window for status. In my case I reached Gold on 4 July 2014 and my status is valid until 31 July 2015. In my case it says 48 nights and 15677 points to Platinum. I think I will easily reach Platinum this year, not by number of nights, but by point accrual. Accor have had so many triple points and other extra points offer lately that a single night in Singapore gave me almost 4000 points!

Yeah, I got nearly 3000 for 2 nights at the Playford in Adelaide on Buzzard's last wine crawl, er, um tour.

Now I have figured out how it works, I may actually chase hotel status, for the first time ever. Will be interesting to see how Plat with Accor might pan out.

We didnt get any points for our stay; sometime in the last few months the Friends and Family rate seems to have ceased to earn...
