Saw that as well on FB and was wondering why QF bothered to terminate MASA shortcut to status and started doing the same thing but this time for free!
Because that combined with double SCs offers was abuse on grand scale.

People earning 200 SCs/year with their regular flying were qualifying Platinum status with one Any seat award run. That is totally absurd.

You could also say it was a smart ploy by Qantas in that a lot of people got a taste of Platinum and are now trying harder than before (ie spending more) to retain it each year.

That's an interesting one. Make sure to keep that in the memory banks for anyone short of attaining Platinum at their first attempt.
