Hi - long time lurker, first time poster...

My QFF renewal date is set for 31 August, I am currently on 1315 SCs so 85 shy of Platinum. I have an economy return to Melbourne in a couple of weeks (40 points) and will be flying to Melbourne in business on the 8th September which would take me neatly to 1400 SCs.

What are my chances of getting Qantas to extend my renewal date by 8 days? Anyone with experience of sucess in this regard before?

Cheers

Having seen mention of at least one QFF member being granted a "bump up" to Platinum despite being a few SC's short in coming up to their anniversary date; it wouldn't hurt to call and plead your case. Alternately, if you are only going to be 40SC short of the threshold and care to not leave this to chance, just do a SC run. 40SC can be done in a day easy.

Was that a WP requal for the 1200 SC or reaching the 1400 SC required for the inaugural?

Its 1400 to get to WP for the first time - have been silver for a while before though, but just doing a bit more travel now.

Sounds like it's a 80 SC run needed. Unless of course you change the first flight to business too.

All the anecdotes I have seen suggest QF will not do this, but can't hurt to ask I guess.

Chances are not good.

If you want Platinum status then get the required SCs before your anniversary.

There have been a couple of posts recently on Facebook where people have been elevated to WP when a few SC short. It's definitely worth calling and asking, especially with forward bookings in the system.
Historically I would have agreed with the others but it seems the times are changing ;)

Is there any evidence of fewer WPs since Simpler&Fairer and the demise of the MASA?

Don't risk QF granting an extension. Find the cheapest fares and get the SC earn by 31 August. *You will not regret it*

And then raise a glass of bubbly when you're having your first serve of salt and pepper squid in SYD F or MEL F.

Your flight on 08SEP will then be your first SCs towards your 1200SC retain :)

Saw that as well on FB and was wondering why QF bothered to terminate MASA shortcut to status and started doing the same thing but this time for free!

Because they've realized there's now a proportion of QFF'ers failing to reach the "lofty" heights of WP and they need a way to keep the handcuffs on :p
(It's probably cheaper to do this than have a shed load of MASA P1's bothering the SST ;) :D )

I have to admit the SST line waiting time is much better this year, dropped from 10 to 5 seconds :D

hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

Probably the same school of thought that cut earning, or whatever, because of over crowding in lounges a few years ago; then offered discounts on Qantas club memberships.

I assume they prefer to manage the invite list rather than getting inundated like a teenagers facebook party.

Thanks for all the responses. I have called them and the response was that it was possible, but on a case by case basis to be assessed by the supervisor. They asked me to call back once my next trip is done so that the SC shortfall is less and by which time I might have a couple more September bookings in the system and so stand a better chance of success.

On another note the guy I spoke to was super helpful and polite and helped me find a few potential missed miles on some flights from earlier in the year.

I agree as in if only a few short a quick status credit run is well worth it and as others have said that flight in September will be your first experience of a QF F lounge and an excellent way to start off your new year.

Good luck and enjoy :D

The new rules have really smashed the earning. I am going to scrape P1 this year (6 weeks to go 3230 points in the bag and 260 booked) with a status run. In previous years I was racking up around 6000 pa. My flying routine hasn't changed. I think it's worth the run to retain P1 as I certainly value the benefit of the SST and have had good luck on complementary upgrades over the years.
