Hey guys,

Tried to find a similar thread but to no avail.
Currently in the process of organising university exchange for second semester next year at UMass. So would be looking at leaving late June 08.

Would love to hear from those who travel to Boston regularly. Just trying to make sense of the best route to travel to get there. Qantas is stating Tullarmarine to LAX to Boston (sorry don't know the codes:) ) for around 2550 return. Is that the quickest and most efficient route or is it wiser to head over the atlantic and straight to the east coast.
Also, would probably travel Qantas but would at the same time consider any reasonable and affordable airline considering im just a uni student.

Any help would be fantastic.

Cheers,

Jonathan

Have you looked at United? They fly to Boston via LAX/SFO, and often have very good prices (but be aware that you probably shouldn't fly them because you'll enjoy it, but because of the price).

I wouldn't recommend doing MEL-SIN-LHR-BOS flights, unless you want to add another few thousand miles onto your journey and face Heathrow. I doubt you'll get it priced out well either.

Qantas will have fares available with a trip to LAX/SFO or JFK and an AA connection to BOS.

I agree with Mal on considering United. I've flown to Boston with them (MEL-SYD-LAX-BOS-LAX-SFO-SYD-MEL) and found that the service was pretty good, and the price was better in comparison to Qantas. Also, if you join UA Mileage Plus you may just earn a free trip to NZ.
In all they'd be a pretty suitable option for your situation.

Hi Jonathon,

I regularly fly MEL - BOS with Qantas and MEL - LAX - BOS is the most convenient way to get there - usually with a 4-5 hr connection in LAX. Going via JFK may promise to get you there faster (MEL-LAX-JFK-BOS) but more connections to miss makes me nervous so I prefer the direct route across the country.

Have gone via Asia/Europe before (MEL-HKG-LHR-BOS) before on a round the world and it takes a loooong time. But - if you wanted a RTW you could come back that way - maybe give you a nice break in London/HongKong on the way back.

Hope this helps

Cheers
- James

Currently sitting in Boston watching the first snow of winter fall, thank god I'm off home in ten days.

United are fine, trans continental, and the flight to BOS is a breeze, although I do fly first. If you do choose this option go via SFO.
