So last year I was able to snatch up last minute return tickets to Narita at about $800ish at the end of October on Qantas (preferred airline since I'm Gold). Ticket prices at the moment look astronomical. Really wanting to go to Sapporo for skiing somewhere around the 25th Dec - 5th Jan.

Does anyone know what the chances are of Qantas having last minute Fly Away sales to get rid of unsold seats? I may be wrong but I swear I've seen cheap last minute deals during mid year school holiday periods which I assume were just unsold seats they were unloading. Has that ever happened during Xmas time?

There is almost zero chance of any last-minute deals for travel right after Christmas, sorry!

I was watching them last year as well and they were reasonably priced for travel up until 14th December from memory. Also last year there was heaps of capacity added with qf and JL launching MEL-NRT and QF also bne-nrt. Don't see it happening this year.
