Just a belated report on a trip to Brussels earlier in the year on Qatar airways.
I was in between jobs and badly needed a break and I had some friends who were going
to Paris so I decided to tag along. They had already booked tickets for $1700 on this
airline so I was naturally over the moon when I took advantage of a unique $800 fare
to Brussels return from Melbourne INCLUDING taxes! Initially I had planned to spend
that time in New Zealand recuperating in a sanatorium, but this super fare changed
things.

Service: Very impressive. We were given a decent amenity kit
and even a sweet as we boarded.

Punctuality: A little late in leaving Melbourne, for operational
reasons we were delayed by about 90 minutes, but we made
up a substantial portion of that on the way to Doha and connected
to our Brussels flight easily. On the way back the service was
dead on time.

Entertainment: A wide selection of films from around the world
and similar for music, the only problem was that our headphones
always seemed to malfunction and I had to ask for about three
replacements in total during the four sectors.

Food: Below standard. Soggy sandwiches for lunch and less
than delectable meals - and that is compared to previous
experiences in economy on a variety of airlines.

Connections: Impressive. Although there was only a turnaround time of
about an hour in Doha, we were promptly bussed to the correct department
and very little time was wasted in getting us on to the connecting flight.
Our luggage arrived at our destinations without a hitch.

Overall grade: Very highly recommended!

I enjoyed my time in Europe visiting the Louvre, Versailles, the Notre
Dame Cathedral and Amsterdam, and the weather held up it was above
10 degrees every day! Very happy with my little trip and hope to do
it again someday. I even earned enough Qatar FF points to get me
from Doha to Athens, wonder if I will ever have time to use them!

I flew QR on the same route in March taking advantage of their sub-$800 return fare. I found the service and meals to be excellent. Although the 777LR is a very comfortable plane, I did find the earplugs useful as the cabin engine noise was quite high. Rather than accruing QR miles, I credited mine to my UA mileage plus account which was done promptly. I would have no hesitation to use QR again to fly to Europe.
