If I arrive into MEL on an SQ flight from SIN, connected to a VA flight to LST (which has a SQ codeshare flight no.), do I need to collect my bags and recheck them at MEL airport?

The SQ website says bags can be checked through to final destination when connecting to VA.

Any ideas? I would have thought I need to clear customs and immigration with my bags, and recheck?

How hard is it to recheck bags at MEL airport?

You need to collect and take your bags though customs and then walk to the VA terminal a few metres (100?) to the right as you exit the international area. It's under the same roof and well sign posted.

Leave the tags on the bag and see what the check in staff say is required. MEL is the best airport in Australia for INT-DOM transfers.
