Have done this trip multiple times in Y on A380 but considering B787 for an upcoming trip with flexible flight times. Most important consideration would be comfort but happy to hear anyone's opinions. Thanks

Yeah but the seats are narrower on the 787 - to the extent that you might as well be on a 737. Why would anyone choose that for a 14hr flight?
Thanks for the feedback. The pitch is reportedly 32" on both so narrower would certainly be less comfortable (not that I'm particularly wide)

Exactly. The 787 is fine in Y if the flight is under 3 hours or the seat next to you is spare. Unless you can guarantee the latter, the A380 wins hands down.

A daily morning A380, or a twice weekly evening 787.
I'd go with QF93 over QF95

QF normally (or used to) quote 31" on A380, the 787 definitely has more legroom in any case, but can't deny the width.

Upper deck is great, but few people can get there. I'm just happy to have a seat wider than my butt.

Thanks for the feedback. I do like the upper deck. Those storage bins on the windows are awesome!

I haven't flow Qantas economy upper deck but have flown Qatar upper deck. Whilst storage bins are great by the window they also meant I couldn't lean on the window or against the wall as it's just slightly too far away.

If its in Y then A380 all the way - did MEL - LAX once on the B878 and it was the most uncomfortable trip that I can ever remember having on a plane - which is a pity as the evening departure / evening arrival into LAX is a convenient one.

I don't think it's that hard to get on the A380 upper deck Y section. I've always done so as SG and now, as recent WP, the seats are certainly more plentiful. The trick is to know when the seats open up and just keep looking. And avoid the rear left seats with the partition and the toilet nearby!
