Good peoples - I need 2 x J Redemptions MEL-LAX on QF Sep 8 to 10, 2014.

QF93 showing only 1 seat ea day - what is experience of 2nd seat opening up if book 1st seat now pls?

QF15 BNE-LAX shows 2 seats available but maybe not fully flat bed?

CX104 and CX880 show 2 seats available but how does this product compare?

ZERO status but ample QF pts which I have to burn sooner or later - your thoughts pls QF experts?

CX J product is comparable to QFs and I wouldn't hesitate to travel on it if that was the only way to get there.

Just keep in mind CX will cost you a lot more in points - it would be a case of whether or not you're willing to part with the extra points.

In my experience seats consumed this far out do not come back in the short term - if sales are slow then maybe at T-330 days.

BNE is likely to be a refurbed craft with lay flay skybed Mk II.

Don't get shocked by the fuel fine inclusive taxes/levies/surcharges.

I'd book MEL-LAX via BNE if on the date you wish for - if two awards on QF93 show up subsequently, changes can be done at the cost of the change fee.

QF J BNE/LAX should be refurbished B747 with Skybed Mk II by the time you take that flight in 2014, so help God how slow they are going to retire the rest of the B747s.

But as Hvr said, if you want the best hedge and don't mind, just take the CX option. Plenty here will attest that their J is superior.

In related news, though, there are two F awards via QF93 on the 10th if you are so inclined.

Hmmm - yes just saw this - 278K v 192K - god this QF stuff sure makes SQ look simple, straight forward AND achievable.

Thanks a gazillion anat - just knocked those 2 F seats off on 10th - Cruiserette sitting up here with a grin from ear to ear - now it's her job to get us home - looks like that will be VA in J.

OK next question please - best 2 F seats for the his and hers combo?

Think of it as using your SQ KF miles to book LH premium flights... which I'm not sure you can do online with SQ, and need to look up a different table.

As for achievable, well, comes down to where the mileage is being fed from...

Did you knock them up Classic or MASA style? :)

Ah well, happy wife, happy life.... or something like that ;) (plus FLounge breakfast and time for a morning massage if you can make it to the airport on time)

TBH I didn't notice your QF status, so surprised you either saw the seats or just took a punt and booked them somehow else. (As a NB you may or may not have been able to see these F seats).

I'll let the more experienced make comment, but I'm thinking that if you both like windows, then select two A seats in consecutive rows. If one of you doesn't mind a non-window seat, select an F (middle) and K seat, as one of you can look into the other compartment, even with the privacy walls up. You can always dine and recreate in one or the other's suite when the seat belt sign is turned off, so unless you decide to do the most "distance makes the heart grow stronger" option of an A and K seat, I think there's not really much 'optimal' choice for couples.

Thanks again anat - yes no status - after you posted just punched in Sep 10 2 x F and they were there - booked and paid for in a matter of mins - gotta take back the smart cough comment about SQ.

Booked 3F/K - way past the lovey dovey stuff - but don't tell Cruiserette that.

As for CX pts reqts - 278K in J compared to SQ 238 in Suites - 'tell 'em they're dreamin'!

On that exact point what time does QF F Lounge open in morn?

According to the QF website, MEL T1 QF Lounges open at 4.30am.

Unsure if it varies by location, but the earliest I was able to book my chauffeured transfer to pick me up was 5 hours before scheduled departure.

Thanks for that - I did search but could not see it - second search revealed:

Probably should've added that in theory Qantas should call you in advance of the day of travel to confirm details and offer you an opportunity to book a spa appointment in advance.

YES am aware thanks - Cruiserette all over this like a 'Fat Kid on a Cupcake'. I am all for the Limo - I know she is going to insist on hotel at MEL night before - god its 11.5mths away - way too far away to be making plans.

Not sure if fat kids like cupcakes these days ;)

What a shame... will be a very short limo / comfy sedan ride even if you stay at the Holiday Inn MEL Airport.
