I guess the title says it all - from MEL - best options to HNL please - pref up front and pref on pts - would love your input good people?

There aren't any direct flights. Now that it's an A330 the "best option" would be QF SYD-HNL imo.

NZ on the 777s is a viable option. 767, not as much.

JQ via SYD or direct from MEL
NZ via AKL

Try for FJ via NAN (mix and match paid and points?)

You could explore UA via CNS and GUM?

Believe it or not QR sell a fare via DOH so whilst I assume you could potentially get availability on QR using QFF points i'm not sure it'd be "worth it" (MEL-DOH-DFW-HNL vv) - a lazy 55-62hr trip each way.....

Best option IMO is to wait for next Jetstar sale (assuming you can wait for such a sale). Taxes on QF classic award are around $550, may as well spend that on a Jetstar ticket and save the points for a better use.

I've done the JQ a few times, if you leave from SYD it won't take so long.

Going over is o/night and if you are a sleeper on planes it works quite well as you arrive early. I have a double shot and can last till early bedtime.

The day flt coming back is a drag. I don't go pointy end, but do buy the all the extras on the return to while away the hours. Plus, the toddlers on the return often object to be restrained after they only just woke up and are full of energy = good Bose.

PS, JQ Friday Frenzy sale starts in 15 mins.

I did MEL-SYD (stayed o/n) then SYD-xICN-HNL on OZ in J using LM's. Not keen to do that again even though we had the creature comforts of the pointy end.

How much is *class on JQ?

Just had a look. $2.3k (not sale fare and no bundles added). Direct flights.

Out of interest what site was that on - QR's site or a third party site like Zuji or Expedia?

....or the toddler behind you stays restrained in her seat however kicks the back of yours for the 10 hour flight. For the comfort and safety of other passengers, never let your child wear Crocs onboard and aircraft as it feels like you're being kicked by someone wearing steel caps. :evil:

The song I was listening to as we taxiied out was 'Welcome to the Jungle' by Guns 'n' Roses and I'd have to say that I couldn't have picked a more appropriate song if I'd tried!
