Reported on 3AW:

Two pedestrians have been struck down at Melbourne Airport after a taxi rammed into them as they were unloading their luggage. The incident happened just before 4am outside departures at the International terminal.

The accident has forced the closure of the entire top level of the departures drop-off area.

The International departures drop-off ramp is expected to be closed for several hours this morning as police investigate.

Now the dropoff system to be reviewed.

Airport to review drop-off system after crash

What a bl**dy waste of time.

I would use a more profane descriptor except that would likely get me banned from AFF.

maybe taxi driver licenses should be reviewed instead

Well to be completely fair, only this taxi driver's licence should be reviewed. In fact, it could have been even a non-taxi vehicle and the driver should be put on the notice.

The fact that many here have little respect for taxi drivers may have exacerbated the circumstances and contempt in this situation.

Have you spent much time in Melbourne taxi's?

I think all the real taxi drivers with talent have been poached by the limo companies, especially the ones that have the ability to look like the mafia

I have decided that a taxi when I fly to Sydney is off the agenda. I shall either train it ( if on my own) or order a limo. The number of times I have had to tell the taxi driver to stop "Pumping" the accelerator pedal indicates that it is not an isolated instance.
No idea of how to Drive a car. Too many people get a drivers licence after learning how to steer a car rather than drive it

Have you spent much time in Melbourne taxi's?

Don't get me wrong, I have enough experience to know I wouldn't trust a Melbourne taxi driver more than your average politician.

But what I said still applies in this case, and I wonder what the reaction or rage would be like if the one who hit the two Indonesian men was not a taxi driver (or, let's say, what if it were an Uber driver)?

I don't think the cab union should try to assume the high horse position on this and try to use its influence to overly protect the interests of the driver who caused the incident in this case.
