What happened to Friday, and I heard you got an airport hotel at a good rate.

And those Sydneysiders are so hard to organize, you almost need to do all the work yourself. :p

Looking like it'll be a swell weekend in PER! Thanks to all the PERthites for coming out on Saturday.

Now for the restaurant choice. The $100 credit voucher will only work at a Priority Club hotel restaurant. So far, the choices at either the Crowne Plaza or the IC Burswood are the candidates. Does anyone have a recommendation to make from the various restaurants?

I know there was a buffet at Burswood. Not sure if it's still there, let alone is it part of the IC (or just part of Burswood Casino). Also not sure if the price exploded since I was last there (this is 4 years ago now...)

The problem with the smorgasbord at Burswood is they would only take one Priority card. It is part of the Intercontinental Hotel.
The food is good but they do 2 sittings so if you go at 6pm you get kicked out before 8pm.

What's the name of the restaurant with the buffet? (not advocating this as a choice - just checkin')

What do you mean they only take one Priority Privilege card? I thought most of them do. One card per table is pretty standard around the place.

As it is Saturday and less than a week out, 8pm sitting may be an idea but I assume bookings are insane for that night.

Do you know how much they charge?

Thanks for the info cove. Want to join us?

Unfortunately a family triple birthday has been organised for Saturday night so I won't be able to make dinner.
Are you guys planning to keep it going with some drinks later etc? If so I might be able to swing by after...

Post drinks might be on the cards, but haven't thought that far ahead w.r.t. location.

The Atrium at Burswood is $65 on Saturday night and the 2 sittings are 5 to 7.30 or 8 to 10.30.
I will check if I can get there later this week. Had a couple of drinks at the Holiday Inn with Lindsay Wilson and that seemed like an ok place and it is pretty much next door seeing it is just past the theaters.

Hi everyone.

Just a note that I hope tonight to get some more info out about tomorrow. (Having 2 hours up on the West side of the country has some advantages... ;)) Of course, then there is also tomorrow when I'll post any final notes.

Sorry about the delays - today is my thesis milestone seminar and meeting - wish me luck!

Good luck with your thesis milestone.
Just remember you could end up being a bit warped from coming to Perth but that is a risk you need to take!

I can now confirm my availability for Saturday night.

PER Meet-up Details

Hi everyone.

Firstly, I passed my thesis review milestone. Yay. :)

Secondly, arrangements for tomorrow: please let me know if you would like to disagree, but for the esteemed company here, I was thinking that having dinner at the restaurant at the Crowne Plaza Perth (Gusti Restaurant).

Main reason for the choice was that I'm staying there :p but I was thinking that although Burswood would have many options, perhaps the Crowne Plaza would be less busy and thus it'll be a more pleasant place to have a chat and so on. Also, going to Burswood means going all the way to.... Burswood. I will try to make a reservation for the night; hopefully it should be OK. Yes, I am a last minute person....... :-|

I'm thinking meeting up for dinner at 7.30 pm. Again, if anyone has other suggestions, let me know.

Otherwise, for those in PERth joining us, hope to meet you then. The $100 voucher will be split evenly amongst all in attendance and basically less to put into the final till at the end. (I'm assuming it'll be OK to use the voucher).

Keep on the forums just in case anything changes. I will be leaving for PER at 0800h SYD time and arriving 1130h PER time.

Looking forward to meeting you all! Feel free to PM me if you want to exchange contact details.

P.S. For the PERthites, I have a spare voucher that gives a free breakfast for up to two people. So if anyone feels like sharing a buffet spread (assumed!) on Sunday morning at the Crowne Plaza, feel free to PM me.

Now: can anyone make a recommendation between two hotels in Perth? Looking to burn for a room for 1 night at either the Crowne Plaza (15k + USD 60, located on Terrace Street) or 1 night at the IC Burswood (20k + USD 60, located at the Burswood casino). Main points would be connectivity to public transport and a nice soft bed to get some rest. At first I thought the Crowne Plaza was a no-brainer, but if the IC is somewhat nicer I don't mind putting in an extra 5k points for it. Oh, and I am not an Ambassador. Or, is the choice a much of muchness?

Neither are terribly well suited for public transport... well, not true. The CP is in the FTZ so you can make use of ANY bus as well as the CAT busses. For the IC you're near Burswood train station, so will have higher transport costs. The IC rooms were a bit dated last time I was there, and on a Fri/Sat night you'll find them quite noisy due to the entertainment surrounding the casino. I'd go the CP personally.

Compared to say Melbourne, Perth Public transport is pretty cheap, and $10 will get you to and from a great many places around Perth,

Amen to that. Wait till you see London prices... hope you have that jar of Vaseline(TM)! :)

BTW, what a shame ; you're about 2 weeks too early for me

Great, looking forward to seeing some of you tomorrow night.

Have fun all- was hoping to be there but not in Perth until Monday.

Update

I have arrived in Perth and checked into the Crowne Plaza.

The reservation at Gusti Restaurant has been made for 7.30pm and I've confirmed that the $100 credit voucher is OK to use tonight. (They were more edgy had today been a holiday....)

So for all coming, the address of the Crowne Plaza (for your GPS, etc.) is:

54 Terrace Road, Perth

The frontage is basically facing the Esplanade (there's a large-ish park in between).

We can meet in the reception / bar lounge (it is "downstairs" from the entrance / reception) before heading to Gusti. Just look for the Asian guy with an AFF tag. ;)

Hope to see the PERthites tonight!

So what was the verdict?

Oh there's no way to make an appropriate response here...... :p :D No... she drove (and thus had to be good with respect to alcohol... very responsible, of course...)

On a more serious note, we had two people last night - missafternoondelight and StevePER - at Gusti's. In the end although we didn't all go the full nine yards on the menu, the voucher covered all but a few more dollars on top for everyone.

Considering that the price of the dishes was not cheap at all, I'd say it was a great use of the voucher. :)

Next stop: Sydney.....

Thanks to thewinchester for a great afternoon, kicking off with afternoon tea at Koko Black's and a conversation that just went on and on and on. (Yes, OK there was a good at-length discussion of the QFF CEO do.) I think I might've spent quite a bit on truffles :p ;) (but I hope it makes the colleagues at home very happy).

Thanks to missafternoondelight and StevePER for coming out for dinner last night. It was great to meet both of you.
