MCY goes international with AirNZ service

.. I'm sure CBR is the only capital in the world without international air links..

Several countries in Africa where the capital city does not have an international air link. (Pretoria, Dodoma) In such countries the capital city is not the commercial hub. In Eu does Koln have long haul international air links ?

You can't really count South Africa, because JNB is so notionally regarded as close to Pretoria (many people live in either and work in the other). Also, Cape Town is one of three of South Africa's capitals, and it is well serviced enough internationally.

I think Cologne has only one or two longhaul links IIRC. But Cologne is hardly a German capital, despite being LH HQ.

There was an article in today's Courier Mail which stated that 3000 Kiwis had used this service to travel to Australia so far and brought $4 million to the Sunshine Coast.

These flights will cease in a couple of weeks but tourism staff hope to increase flights for the future

Air NZ will operate a second season of twice weekly A320 services between MCY-AKL for 2013

They will operate from June 18 to October 13 on Tuesdays and Sundays

Why is only June-Oct feasible? I thought summer months would be more logical, something like Sep-Feb/Mar?

Quite a few NZ folks leave for the winter.

It used to have flights to Rio and Newark. Plenty of flights across Europe.

I took the reference as being to Bonn, given that CGN is Koln-Bonn airport and Bonn was a capital before reunification stopped that.
