MCT on ORD-DFW-SYD

Hi all,

A quick search came up with many a thread on MCT on incoming QF7 flight and connections, but could not see one on outgoing.

Google search suggests 50 mins?

I have a tight connection AA2375 (term A) to QF8 (term D) of 1.04 and travel agent just says "they would not let you book it if it was not doable".

Thoughts? It is all on one booking, and I guess I have never been to Dallas before
If I miss it!!

TA also suggested QF would likely hold the flight because I will have a boarding pass??

I think I might just call Platinum desk for guidance.

The MCT in DFW for domestic > international connections seems to vary between 40 and 50 minutes. Either way, it's a perfectly legal connection.

You should have no trouble making the flight if the flight from ORD is on time, and the QF lounge in DFW is quite missable anyway. But in my experience, AA flights are often late and just a small delay would jeopardise the connection. You'd still be "protected" as it would be on one ticket, but you may have to take the next day's QF8. Alternatively, if you knew in advance that the ORD-DFW flight was going to be late then you could always ask at the lounge in ORD for a re-route of ORD-LAX-SYD.

I was waitlisted on ORD-LAX-MEL (no D class available on QF94) but had to ticket last Friday. I will therefore be ORD-DFW-SYD-MEL which at least gets a few extra SC's

Just called QF WP desk and they assured me they would either hold QF8 or put me up in a hotel for the night!! :shock:

Yeah - 40-50 mins is just fine. If the flights arrive on time. ORD is prone to delays in winter (snow) and summer (T-storms). DFW is prone to delays in summer (T-storms). If you absolutely need to be back home I'd try and get on an earlier connection. If you can spare the extra day... relax.

My last trip out of DCA was one of those nightmare summer days with the planned two hour transit in DFW

Too hot with a full load of pax out of DCA so the pilot ordered only sufficient fuel to get to Nashville. We left late. At Nashville we taxied to a holding bay, topped up the tanks and then were on our way to DFW. By the time I got off I had less than 30 minutes until QF8 scheduled departure. Using the train system to change terminals it still only took 15 minutes. I made the flight.

One thing I did notice is that when I arrived at DCA I had been brought forward onto an earlier (now delayed) flight.

The other consideration that would kick in if you are going to miss the DFW connection then QF might route you via LAX before you head on the domestic flight to DFW.

DFW MCT D-I is 50 minutes in most cases.

AA uses gates in all 5 terminals at DFW (mainline in A, C and D, Eagle in B and D and many former US flights in E). Other then International arrivals, in most cases you can't confirm which terminal a flight will use until the day of the flight.
All the terminals are fully connected airside, both via walkways and Skylink.

The current AA2375 arrives Term A and QF8 leave Term D so that looks worst case, about 15 mins transfer, so assuming land on time and 30 mins pre-board for QF8 I have 19 mins spare
