Next year I'm coming back from SIN on a QF flight.

I need a flight from Penang to connect to the flight. No shortage of options but I'd like to explore ideas around a J redemption on Silkair. I was thinking to make the redemption PEN-SIN-Palembang(PLM). This is the same number of miles 14,875 with higher taxes.

PEN-SIN $82.48
PEN-SIN-PLM $154.11 taxes

My thoughts were that this would give me lounge access in Penang and SIN for the four hour transit to a QF flight. Also, qualifies me for the Changi transit voucher.

My concern is about the lounge access as the SIN-PLM flight is the following day. I need to get initially checked to SIN so that I can retrieve my bags for the QF flight. I don't expect Penang staff will issue me a boarding pass for the onward sector.

Therefore at SIN I'll be wanting to checkin for the SIN-PLM flight at 1730 one afternoon for 8am the following day.

Once I've used the lounge for my transit, I'll tell the service desk that my plans have changed and let them know I wont be boarding the flight the next day and forfeit my unused portion.

Anyone done anything like this? Any tips?

I think the plan could work. And depending on how much time there is between your arrival into SIN and the departure to PLM (I assume its less than 20 odd hours since its a transit), the staff at PEN might be able to issue you a boarding pass for that as well, just with no gate information printed.

Alternatively, SQ now offers passengers with confirmed onwards flights to be able to get their boarding pass at the Silverkris lounge but since your flight is on the next morning, I am not too sure what rule would apply here since technically, you are only supposed to use the lounge on the same day your flight is scheduled to depart. Perhaps, it might not be a bad idea to find an alternative flight that departs few hours later that evening (somewhere close like CGK could work? SQ968 springs to mind with a 10pm departure I think) but make sure your bags are only checked through to SIN and then you can cancel for the same 'emergency' reason.

But overall, I think the only reason why you would want to do this in the first place is for the transit voucher? Because other than that, paying $70 extra in YQ and hassle involved with the ticketing seems like an awful lot to simply access the J SKL. In saying that, I noticed they started having some great champagne there recently such as Delamotte.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Thanks for this. I ended up ticketing the flight as the waitlisted sector cleared. I would be making a payment to the transit lounge anyway as I'll be in Y on QF, so I think it is a small marginal cost. Plus I'll have the fun of trying to juggle it - that's got to be worth something too.

You might want to double check what the deal is with on no-show fees.

I've seen somewhere that SIA may charge $75 before (can't remember where) but YMMV depending on the situation.
