La Reunion is not really blessed with the magnificent beaches we saw in the Seychelles, but is a hiker's paradise.... My +1 wanted to hike 5 hours to see the tallest waterfall, and when I refused, then wanted to hike to the active volcano, Piton de la Fournaise which takes at least 6 hours for people of average fitness which I dont even think I am!! Some online reviewers said it took them 8 hours return!!
Piton de la Fournaise is one of the most active volcanoes on the planet in terms of the frequency of new eruptions (on average one every nine months over the last ten years). It last erupted in August 2023!
I managed to book an hour helicopter tour over the volcanoes, mountains, waterfalls etc which we took yesterday....it was not outrageously expensive at €339 each.
As +1 was the lightest, she got to sit upfront for the best views and photos, whilst I was sqauahed at the back with 3 others
...but the views were still fantastic and I avoided hours of hiking!
