I would be offended however it seems as though the individual was not of sound mind rather than simply being a male chauvinist.

Two words for this person: sexist pig.

Sorry, but you should be turfed from the carrier for gross misconduct. She's qualified, certified, and expeirenced - stop moaning like a pig.

It was a passenger complaining, not the pilot!

I think 'thewinchester' was referring to the pax, not the pilot.

To truly comment on my experience with flight's in India, I would need a smiley (look right >) that shows the 'head wobble' and the blank look. Until that appears, I can't fully express myself.

(No, I'm not being racist, you need to be there to experience it!)

Ahh might have mis-read!

and I can relate to the head wobble.. We had big discussions about it during the games last year!

Unfortunately sexism (as well as other -isms) are still well ingrained in some societies around the world. We view it as a moral injustice, but other societies may not.

Frankly the reason why we are rather put off by this and the existence of it is because we base this decision on our society's morals which say that sexism is unacceptable. I'm not condoning what the man did and this 'understanding' should not mitigate any punishment against him, but trying to explain part of the context that surrounded why he had the outburst.

Societies are changing, as can be seen by the way the behaviour was not tolerated in the end. Perhaps it was more a glib outburst considering that the plane had already been delayed.

India still has a strong social ladder (caste) system, which I think is more imposing on people's rights compared to something like sexism.

I wonder how this person would have felt on the Virgin America flight I took from JFK to LAX two weeks that was flown by a female captain and a female first officer!
I made some bad, very lame female driver jokes to my wife at the time which didn't go down too well, but it seems I had nothing on this guy.

Could always throw the usual academic cultural relativism arguments etc etc that second graders throw around to support a meagre income.....but the reality is he refused to fly...and he didn't fly!!

Helluva longer trip than he had planned.....and he achieved zilch.

I’ve noticed a lot of my flights have had female pilots/crew up the front lately.
Certainly more useful to have them up front (or up top for 747) than taking the precious Business/First class upgrade seating that I covet ... :p

Not a bad trick landing a plane on its nosewheel... wonder what she does for an encore???
