Re: Passenger standing over 7 hours on flight

Is this the same story from the thread earlier this week?

Not good to read these types of stories.

I remember a DJ/VA flight a while back where I was allocated an aisle seat and this really huge man was allocated a middle seat. By the same token I am large/obese as well but I stick within the bounds of my seat and do not want to make anyone's flight uncomfortable.

This person was already seated in the middle seat when I go to my seat. I sat down and struggled to get the seat belt on and did not have any shoulder room. This person made no effort to ensure he did not spill over into my seat. An FA noticed my discomfort and asked me to move to an aisle seat 3-4 rows back. Just as well there was an aisle seat otherwise my flight would have been uncomfortable.

I noticed throughout the flight that this person did not make any effort to move from the middle seat over to the aisle seat. The aircraft was certainly not full and I do not remember if there was anyone in the window seat either.

My summation was that this person has done this in the past (getting middle seat) in the hope that others around him will be inconvenienced and he will end up with a vacant seat next to him.

Not on a flight but we had the same experience in a Billy Connolly concert a few years ago. An obese person was sitting in his seat and half of my partners. It was dreadful. But some kind of karma, if you have ever been to a Connolly concert he goes into diatribes about various things and this time, one of his diatribes was about Obese (except he used the word FAT) people who take up all his room on planes and then can't see the inconvenience this creates for everyone. And he went on and on about it. As he does. Swearing hugely. It was like Billy could see us all squished up in our seats. The obese guy next to us was actually laughing. And I suspect probably didn't even think it applied to him.;)

You would be surprised how many obese people, me included, actually do not see themselves as obese. It sometimes takes years for the realisation to sink in.

And by the way I am not using that as an excuse....
