Hi all,

First time poster - long time unregistered reader :). I am currently a One World member through my Qantas membership. I am required to travel to work frequently to Malaysia and have in the past gone through Singapore in order to fly with Qantas to get the points. This as you can imagine is becoming rather tedious. I am thinking of signing up to the Malaysia Airlines enrich program in order to gain points there and hopefully take advantage of their introduction into the One World membership at the end of the year.

I was wondering if anyone out there had any ideas about whether they think Enrich members miles will transfer to their One World membership when Malaysia Airlines joins later this year and if so, will they benefit my Qantas points?

I mainly use my Qantas membership for access to the lounge when travelling for business, and upgrades from Economy to Business class when travelling personally for myself and my partner. Do you know if the points I accumulate in Enrich will add to my Qantas points to allow me to continue to do this?

If they do not and they stay with One World, what type of benefits can I take advantage of in One World?

Thanks in advance,

Kicks

Welcome to AFF - As a rule across One World, frequent flyer points are never shared between accounts of different programs. You would likely be able to credit points from MH flights to QFF but you would not be able to use QFF points to upgrade MH flights.

Also bear in mind that MAS has flagged it is in significant financial difficulty at present so it seems highly likely their membership to OW may be deferred or cancelled.

I'd be inclined to credit your MH travel to the QFF program (edit: provided the Oneworld membership goes ahead).

You cant pool points from two programs - once allocated to a particular program, there they stay until redeemed.

Looks like they are still on track for one world membership this year.

I cannot wait for MAS to become a OW member by the end of the year ... can do majority of my South East Aisa and Indian Sub-Continent flying done through MAS at a cheaper rate , whilst earning QFF Points + SC's

Yes , me too :) Can't wait. I doubt I'll credit QFF when I start flying MH though. As you say, MH routing offers plenty of choices in the local area and I'll likely keep points earned in enrich and use them for upgrades and whatnot.

A lot of it will come down to the earn rate for various fare classes on MH on QFF. And conversely the earn rate of other OW airlines on MH enrich.

Although silver and gold are roughly equivalent on QF and MH. Currently platinum on MH is much more difficult to obtain than on QF. At the moment if you are doing enough travel to make QF platinum you are probably better off sticking with QFF. Of course MH might adjust enrich status before they join OW properly.

I wouldn't expect them to do that. All programs have quirks about how difficult or not it is to qualify for certain levels.

Once they join OW ... flying MH with your QFF Membership .. will be beneficial .. it will open up a lot of sectors for me ie .. SEA ( South East Asia ) and the Sub-Continent + QFi has stopped flying to BOM , Which was QF's only flight to the sub-continent

Interestingly for me with the QF codesahre on 9W it actually improves my earning as previously I would have taken CX to India and not earned as many points. I agree though that MH is a beneficial thing.

The biggest problem with QF-9W Combination is the price .... Very expensive !!!! MH already offers cut throat prices , once it becomes a OW carrier life will be good .... I end up doing atleast 8 trips a year to the sun-continent and 5 to SEA in a year.

I just hope the MH redemption burn rates stays the same as they are now even after they joined OW. SYD-KUL-SYD J class for 68000 enrich miles is great value!
