Malaysia Airlines Delays/Cancellations

So after collecting bags from SYD arrivals went back upstairs to departures to get cabcharge to Mercure.

Spoke with a young couple in same boat (except they were Ibis via bus).

They said They will never again fly MH. (The usual refrain). I explained nicely to them that the problem was weather first then curfew at SYD. They were locals but never heard of a curfew. Bulldust apparently.

Anyway they said they had onward bookings etc etc to coughet etc etc.

I asked if they had travel insurance as this would be covered. They said “no it was not necessary”. :eek:They then said to each other they should maybe take out travel insurance. I think too late.....o_O

MH141 KUL-SYD diverted to MEL then refuelled and waited for clearance for MEL-SYD arriving into SYD at 2309 and due to winds came in and landed to the South on runway 16.

Unusual in that any flights operating during curfew must takeoff to the South and land to the North.
This one might be a Ministerial dispensation

So yesterday’s SYD wide weather causes multiple flight delays and diversions.

One cancellation was MH140 usually departing at 2215.
The inbound MH141 KUL-SYD diverted to MEL and didn’t arrive into SYD until 2309.

Presumably ministerial/delegate curfew dispensation was allowed as this aircraft also landed from north to south due to the winds.

MH140 then cancelled andcthe flight rescheduled at 1330.
Passengers sent to hotels

Now you would think they would get the aircraft cleaned - they had all morning. However it was not and so instead of departing at 1330, the cleaning is still underway. We are now at the aircraft door at 13:30 waiting for cleaning to be completed

Further to the cancelled MH140 on 31/1/19

The flight is then reconstituted as MH140D
Departing at 1330hr 1/2/19
The inbound but diverted MH141 arrived into SYD at 2309 hr 31/1/19 possibly with ministerial dispensation.

Checkin:

So I was at checkin at 1030. The airline couldn’t process any check ins because MH did not notify Immigration of the flight number so the system did not recognise the new flight number on that day. Had to wait I hour for the MH people to sort it out. This 1 hour caused an unintended consequence...- checked luggage tags not recognised.

SmartGates:
Then the Smart Gates would not process my passport for the same reason. Had to be manually let out of the country.

Boarding:
Now by this time the aircraft had been sitting in SYD for over 12hrs. Well when it came to boarding at 1230, they announced at the gate the aircraft had not been cleaned. So boarding did not occur until 1330. Now why would an airline not clean an aircraft before the next flight until the last moment?. They forgot to organise because it was a cancelled aircraft and could therefore be done in the morning but by morning no one organised it??.

Onboard
Travelling J
Sorry no menus because this aircraft had intended to turn around at 2215 last night and had the overnight menus which is apparently different to the daytime flight menus.
Well MH would know the daytime flight MH122 was departing around the same time. They could have photocopied some from MH122.
So onboard the cabin crew had to verbally tell us what was on menu.

Arrival baggage:
Because the system for about 1 hour did not recognise the new flight number in SYD, A few of us who tried to checked in at SYD during that time (and therefore the printed baggage tags weren’t either) had checked baggage tagged and sent into the system which stopped the bags somewhere in the system.

All this could have been better if MH put in place a process for dealing with delayed and cancelled aircraft.

BNE international had to be evacuated on Saturday night 2 February 2019 due to a man of Middle Eastern ethnicity allegedly making a false bomb threat and brandishing a knife at female family members.

MH134, the timetabled 2320 hours BNE to KUL (A333 9M-MTB) took off at 0220 hours on Sunday 3 so arrival should be at 0804 hours, 154 late.

On Friday 15 February 2019, MH139 from KUL down to ADL (A333 9M-MTI) should arrive at 0855 hours, 50 late. The 0930 hours returning flight, MH136 will in all probability be delayed until at least 1010 hours in pushing back.

MH140 again has a delayed departure. Tonight’s 21 Feb 22:15 SYD-KUL has been delayed to 12:30 tomorrow

Passengers were already checked in and then had to collect bags from the arrival carousels.

Rain at SYD did not prevent other airlines departing pre curfew with minimal delays.

The inbound MH141 from KUL was a little late but would not have been a problem as usual turnarounds are around 1:20.

Due to repeated evening storms in Sydney - hailstones in some suburbs - the KUL - SYD MH141 (A333 9M-MTJ) diverted to MEL where it remained until takeoff at 2201 hours. SYD arrival is suggested as post-curfew at 2310 tonight so I assume it must have a dispensation from the Federal Minister's delegate. There is a large number of delayed aircraft endeavouring to land in SYD and all ahead of MH141.

MH140, the 2215 hours SYD - KUL is showing as one time but that is mythical. I assume it will be delayed overnight.

Anyone know why MH130 AKL-KUL was diverted to ADL yesterday?
Thought I was losing my marbles as I saw a MH flight take off this morning only to see another sitting at the terminal a bit later on

Sunday 7 April 2019 has the SYD and MEL-bound respectively MH141 (A333 9M-MTA) and MH129 (9M-MTF) similarly late. The first one should arrive at gate at 2015, 40 minutes behind the timetable while the one for Melbourne is half an hour late as expected arrival is 1945 hours.

Wednesday 17 April 2019 finds MH123, the overnight from KUL down to SYD (B789 9M-MAC) likely to arrive at 1032 hours, 32 late.

MH141 (Friday 3 May, the 0910 hours KUL - SYD in the sky at 1024) should arrive at 2007 hours, 32 late. A333 9M-MTH is the plane.

Sunday 5 May 2019's MH129 (0920 hours morning KUL - MEL airborne at 1012 hours with A333 9M-MTI) should arrive at 1952 hours, 37 minutes behind schedule.

Friday 10 May finds MH149, the 2210 hours Thursday 9 that took off on time at 2229 likely to arrive at 0841, 46 late with A333 9M-MTF. A holding pattern above Bendigo did not assist.

On Thursday 30 May 2019, A333 9M-MTO on MH149, the 2210 hours KUL down to MEL was airborne at 2242. Hindered by holding west of Kerang, Friday 31 arrival should be at 0845 hours, 50 late.
