Hey guys,
I recently have bought a sale ticket from Malaysia Airline, the ticket is to Rome and return from Frankfurt to Perth.
Something has come up requiring me to stay on in Europe (UK) past the return date of my ticket. As this is a sale ticket I'm unable to change anything with it, so this is my plan:

1. Take my flight from Rome to Perth
2. Not take my flight home from Frankfurt
3 AND instead purchase a ticket to London, then a one way ticket back to Perth from London on the date I need to return

I was wondering what people's opinion was on this? Will I encounter any problems in Germany by missing my flight back to Perth and instead getting on a flight to London?

Thank you very much

Should not be any problems. If you formally cancel the return leg (after you're already in Europe) you should even get your taxes back.

Thank you, I forgot to mention something which may be significant
I booked this ticket with a friend, so we are on the same e-ticket. If I don't check in, she should still be ok to do so?

You are on same itinerary, you won't be on the same e-ticket. Each e-ticket has a unique number for each person travelling (that what I understand anyway). As long as your friend isn't a minor she should be OK!

Just be aware that they may re-price your orginal ticket as a one way- this is like to cosume any refundable amount you may have been owed.

Also, Ensure that you get the PNR split before you cancel - otherwise your friend may indeed get stranded!

(It may be easier to simply get the PNR split into two after arriving at Rome, then simply no show for your return.)

How so? I've turned up at airports before to checkin at different times to other people on the same PNR, and it doesn't seem to affect anything? The person who will be turning up could simply claim the other passenger is running late. Perhaps with an LCC it might, but with a legacy airline?

YMMV.

What you report on is outside my experience. I try to leave little to chance, so never would I put myself in that situation.

Out of curiosity does anyone know what the TPAY means on the e-ticket :

"SPECIAL SERVICE: 1 CHECK ININFORMATION TPAY"
