I totally missed that !!!
On my last F flight DXB-SYD the FA asked me if I'd like a glass of champagne as I was arranging my things upon boarding. I asked what was on offer and she said "Duval Leroy" :!:
One look at my shocked expression (stunned mullet) and she offered to go to the galley and check. Luckily it was indeed Sir Winston

Quelle horreur! Duval Leroy?? That would be plonk even in J for QF :D

I think it does apply to the whole menu. On some flights anyway.

It's extremely quiet. Hard pressed to hear the engines when we're starting them. I've never had any feedback from someone who has flown on a pax 747-800, but it would be interesting to know how they compare.

I can compare, but both the A380 and 747-8 sound quite quiet from the front of the aircraft :D. Barely noticed on either one, I've flown the 747-8 once (LH in F), the A380 15 times (it's been that many? :D). Quieter than a 747-400 or an A340, although both of those are quieter than a 777 in my experience.

Three words:

Book the Cook

OT for this thread but yes +1 for BTC ex-SIN - fantastic.

Also enjoyed suites, even if the product is quite old now it's still very very nice. Heck the amenities and SQ PJ's are a cut above IMHO.

For those few QF First virgins, after take off and when things calm down a bit in the cabin ask one of the FAs to give you a tour of the plane. You can do the (vertical?) lap of honour yourself but being escorted just adds to the experience, plus they have some fun facts they can share and prompt friendly reactions from the staff in other cabins.

Whilst I always try to fly on the A380 because it is so quiet, and it has an F cabin, I recently had an A380 switched to a 747-400, and the difference in the noise level of the nose wheels descending was to the extreme. Seated at the front and downstairs on both planes, one can barely hear the nose wheels descending in the A380, but on the 747 (VH-OJS) recently the nose wheels descended and the noise was almost frightening, and the sound of the airflow beneath me suddenly increased significantly. There is clearly a major difference in the engineering of their nose wheels and their wheel bays.

I find the noise of the nose wheel deployment reassuring

Not sure where they are on the A380, but on the 747 the front wheels sit under row 1 so you're right in the action there!

On the A380, the front wheels are under the coughpit, ahead of 1L. They're in similar spots relatively on both planes, but for the passenger up front, you are near directly above in the nose of the 747, but a few rows back effectively on the A380.
