Majority 'don't trust' female airline pilots

I have complete confident with female pilots as they have to go through the same training as their male counterparts to achieve the position.
My confidence is boosted knowing that they don't have to reverse park them

In my time in the flying game, i have seen both males and females excel in simulator and check rides, and i have seen both sexes equally struggle at times. In my opinion, it is the individual, not their sex, that determines whether they are a competent pilot or not.

This is incorrect. I have personally flown two large transport aircraft (FAR25 certified) that have female voices as the EGPWS voice. One was actually a recording by the CEO of the companies wife! I actually think that the male brain responds to a female voice far more effectively than a male voice.

That would depend on what the female voice is trying to achieve.

If she is trying to relax me that is going to work. If she is going to bark orders at me then she is better off doing it to another sucker as she strictly only gets one reprieve from me. Same offence and instant dismissal.

I received this email today and although it should be in the "Humour" thread a little light hearted banter couldn't hurt

When I was in the pub I heard a couple of blokes saying that they wouldn't feel safe on an aircraft if they knew the pilot was a woman.

What a pair of sexists. I mean , it's not as if she'd have to reverse the bloody thing!

When I returned on Royal Brunei (fairly Islamic country) Air, the announcements were done by the First Officer. It was revealed as we approached the terminal that the Captain was a woman. I don't think that they were trying to hide anything, by the way, it just happened that way. Congrats to the airline.

Sad on three counts: 1. that there are so few female pilots that we are surprised when we get one, 2. that there was the "need" for a survey done to test this question, and 3. the result of the survey.

BTW, I am female and an excellent reverse-parker.

I recall back in the '80's when Air N.S.W. (part of the Ansett Group) flew into MCY in F-28 2000's, that one of the 1st Officer's was a female, Felicity Bush by name, and not just a good pilot, but fun to talk to whilst she did the ground checks. She stayed with the Airline until the "Dumb Pilot Strike" later in the decade, then moved to an Asian Airline if memory serves me right.
I think there was also a female F/O with QF at that time.

Last September I flew with Jetstar from Singapore to Darwin and the entire crew, including the two pilots were female. Full marks to them too.
I also know that in the mining industry, there are many women employed to drive the dump trucks as they tend to be less aggressive on machinery.

Absolutely correct - in my time learning to fly, the male and female instructors were both trained equally but the female instructors had superior skills - both flying and teaching - because they took it more seriously than the guys who were just killing time getting their hours up. They always said that for a woman to get anywhere in the aviation industry they had to be twice as good as a man, before they were seen as equal. I am happy to be flown these days by either a woman or a man and am pleased to see more female pilots making it into the airlines. However, when I have time to go back and brush up my piloting skills I will be looking for a female instructor. {FYI - I am a male - who after years of practise always manages to reverse park fairly well !!}

I know a woman that teaches the men how to drive those dump trucks at the mines in SA.
