Are there any other sensible uses for the comp upgrade from MEL apart from PER? Would you go there if you didn't want to just to experience the product?

The only two times I've been through Perth have been when im doing VA HKT-PER-MEL in J on a special spreadsheet only rate :). So in answer to your question.. no :D ahah

Well I just got made Platinum with 980 SCs!

I am sitting on 955 points with another 10SC tomorrow afternoon for CNS-TSV. Inching closer to platinum for first time. No need for status run just yet as almost all SC were earned April this year.

MEL-DRW for circa $379 (flexi). Would I go? Yes...........Touristy thing only and you could try out the new Hilton or DT with a (possibly) newly minted diamond HH membership. Sounds feasible to me (provided you're prepared to accept the horrid travel times).

I recently had my first return flight since reaching WP. Being welcomed on board was nice but the big bonus for me was sitting in row 3 with the additional leg room on both flights.

Congratulations on platinum.......and welcome to AFF!

:D...I thought it would be a non starter!

Surely it's a pretty short (but not cheap) transfer to Airlie Beach though? I went there years ago and it was a bit of a fun backpacker party town.

If Airlie is the destination, PPP is a better option (although no business class). The Island to mainland ferry is about $50/adult each way. No luggage and fine weather, Abel Point is the way to go (nice walk to Airlie along a boardwalk)...... with luggage, definitely Shute Harbour is better (bus available.....no bus to Abel Point, taxi only).

Well happy that I started off just trying to retain gold, but with a 150SC bonus and a two ADL-NTL reward runs saw me get to 1000+ :D

I think it's a waste of money to go somewhere you dont want to go that is v expensive just because you can travel there in style (ie PER). I think for little 1 hour hops J is a bit of a waste for SG or WP - the only things that are different are the bigger seat and better meal - you barely notice it on a short flight.

MEL-CNS is about 3:20 from memory. Im disappointed its just the standard 1 tray meal they serve on MEL-ADL given the flight length but to me it's a more sensible use of a free upgrade because you have much more time to experience it all. They (foolishly) charge $1000+ pp each way in J on this route. From memory flexi is about $300 each pp each way so with 2-4-1 it would only be $300 pp return in J which to me is great value.

From MEL, other than PER, I think you've hit on one of the two best J upgrade routes (CNS), the other being DRW. I say this because of the length, but I haven't yet experienced J on the 738. Having experienced J MEL-PER on the A330, I would definitely say it's worthwhile even if just to experience the product - it's fantastic! Surely there are places worth going to in WA, which would see you going via PER, e.g.:

- If you like wine, Swan Valley, Frankland River, Margaret River (which is nice enough even if you don't like wine)
- If you like nature and/or the beach, Broome, The Kimberley

Well, that's a nice present to wake up to. Doubt I'll be lucky enough to have a status review happen today, though. ImageUploadedByAustFreqFly1375130341.397200.jpg

Similarly I have many people to thank on AFF as over the years I've obtained benefits never considered previously (VA Plat).

I'm 10 SC's short of re-qualifying Plat with 5.5 months to do it. Somehow O think I'll make it

Three cheers for AFF! Hip hip Hooray!

Right about now I'm thinking lots of very happy thoughts about this forum. Thanks everyone for getting me here. I've read lots of other posts in this thread and though they can't really be that happy... But now I understand. And I Know that this would not have happened without finding this site. Amazing what a little random Googling can do. In a strange way I really need to thank the mess that was the Sabre implementation too because it was researching the best way to claim my missing SCs :)

Just changed my FFProg to read VA Plat - also a recent 'Made Platinum'.Most of it done sitting down the back!
