Since no answers have been forthcoming… from what I can gather from other sources… either contact the airline in advance to have it changed, or do so at the service desk on day of departure. But allow extra time.
DOB and other APIS should be uplifted straight from the passport for sending to the next country. So most sources indicate it’s not really a problem.
However some places like the USA require DOB in the reservation to match DOB on the ID.
This "friend" is heading to the US and has contacted their corporate TA to get resolved. They said that they'd update "me" once they hear back
