Macquarie Bank takes over from HSBC

No luck for me. I rang them as well, complained about the fee coupled with decreased points earn past 2500 and just got a "yes ..."

Old card will apparently be cancelled after the 25th of this month so they said. Not quite sure where thats going to leave them as far as getting paid for this months account is concerned. I rang them this month to ensure that I could do a bpay transfer to the old card number, turns out I could but that "it will take longer to go through" - okay, whatever, but next month the old card will be dead apparently, if the new card isn't activated then how will I pay them?

Others might have worked this out already I suspect, but I did a quick and dirty calculation on the new card fee and rough guess at what these institutions might pay QF for points - at 0.7c a point, which is high and I doubt many banks would pay, it equates to about $1650 of spend a month. If they are paying 0.6c/p then its about $1930/m and at 0.5c/p its about $2300/m ... I suspect that for the 1p/$ monthly spend portion the bank really wants you to pay for your own points

called today and they waived.. said they will first wait for it to be charged (in couple of months), and then they will reverse it.

As for paying yhethe cancelled account just bpay the account details as provided on yOur bill. Not that complicated

Perhaps - but as has been mentioned, the bill already states the new card account number ... which hasn't been activated. when I spoke with them on the phone they agreed that this wouldn't work for a bpay and I should use the old card number ...

Phoned today to say I wouldn't be activating my new card and to find out how my outstanding balance from my current card would be paid, no questions as to why and nothing further offered to entice me to stay.

Just because the cards not activated doesnt mean its not your new account number.

I paid my last bill which had the new numbers on it with a mixture of Bpay from my bank account & part cash at Woolies, both payments were using the old numbers. Subsequently read this thread a few days ago & thought I may have stuffed up, so gave them a call & they told me it would go through but wouldn't appear for a few days. The payments have now appeared in my CC account.

Sure - though the CSR on the phone _did_ tell me that using the new number won't work if I haven't activated the new card .... perhaps I'm overthinking it all?

If they send me a statement with a new number on it and the new number doesn't work, that would be their problem not mine.... though these types of things have a tendency to come back and bite you and then become your problem so I'm pretty cautious.

Yes, as with me. I've already paid my annual, some months ago before all this new stuff started to appear on my radar - they don't seem that interested in entering a conversation now about fee waivers or extra points so I'm starting to think I should just activate the new card, get my measly 2000 points and cancel before renewal next year

Using the new account number for sending a BPay payment before activating the card certainly did work for me.

I paid my bill using my new account number without activating the card and the payment went through OK.

Paid BPAY with the old details without activating the card, and the payment went through fine. Took a few days to show up but was backdated the day I made it.

I can't open any of my statements using the online portal. Has never previously been an issue. Anyone else having problems?

Mine are loading ok, finding there is a couple of seconds delay before the new tab opens with Firefox.

hmmm just noticed my annual fee went through yesterday. I still haven't activated the new card (only 2500 point offer). What are my chances of a refund if I cancel the card?

Fairly high if you do it in the next few days, but they will most likely give you fee free for a year.

I had this problem using chrome today. Clicked and nothing happened. Tried Firefox and it didn't work either but I got a msg saying it had blocked a pop up. Allowed the pop up and the statement opened in the pop up window. Maybe check your popup blocker?

Chrome did a funky update this month. Wasn't able to log into the ATO portal as the latest version doesn't routinely support Java anymore.

I hate it when IT people have no consideration for the actual users of the product.
