Does anyone have any experience with interlining checked bags from VA to VX when connecting in LAX? I'm flying PER x SYD - LAX - LAS. PER to LAX is on same ticket with VA, but the VX fare was purchased separately.

I've had hit and miss information with things like this in the past, so wanted clarification to see if my bags can be tagged through to LAS when I check them at Perth. I know the procedure with clearing immigration, collecting bags and then clearing customs (first point of arrival in the US), but after this I don't know whether I can use the transfer desk, or whether I have to cart my bags over to T3 and check them in again, thus probably paying additional fees.

If I'd seen your post this time last week, I'd have help you ask VA/VX in person on my day trip to LAX. No personal experience but here is the transfer information on the website (if you haven't already seen):
Virgin America | Virgin Australia

I did see that page. I think it's a bit vague on purpose (no mention of checked bags) in case they leave it up to the discretion of ground crew.

Unless they are tagged to LAS you will need to check in again at T3 as the baggage transfer facility is only for tagged onward checked luggage. You have to go to T3 check-in for your BP anyway so no real time lost

Yep, agree with the above post. Have to take your bags and check in at T3. It's really not that much of a hassle.

I had to collect my bags, customs then walk across to T3 I think and then check in VA in November.
