Hi - I'm fairly new to using FF although I have been part of the Qantas program for a while and just enrolled in Velocity. Our family (2 adults, 2 children) are travelling around the world on Lufthansa this year and I'm trying to work out the best program to enrol us in, given that there won't be any forseeable international travel in the near future (after this trip). When we do travel again, I'm sure it will be just to Asia. Any suggestions? I know you can redeem points at MilesnMore online website, but it would be nice to use points for flights.

Welcome to AFF caviti :)

What class of travel are you in for your RTW? Is this a Lufthansa fare or a star alliance fare (if you have paper tickets the fare basis should be printed on it and will help determine this). What flight routing are you taking. That will determine how many miles you will get and what awards may be possible.

Miles & More generally has very good award availability on star alliance flights (including Air NZ).

If you provide more information then we can help advise whether Miles and More is a good option for you, or if another program may suit you better.

Hi there,

Only just got the tickets. They're issued by Lufthansa and are flrestrctd.bafoc.nrtggga15930 (if that means anything). Sydney - Tokyo - Frankfurt - Split (own way to - ) Belgrade - Berlin - Paris (own way to - ) Bordeaux - Munich (own way to ) Frankfurt - Vancouver - Hawaii - Home.
.
Still would appreciate your advice if you've got any ideas - but assumming Miles n More is the way to go.

Thanks again, Caviti :)

I'm sorry that doesn't help much.

If it is an e-ticket there should be a booking class appear by each flight. This is a single letter eg W, V, Z, D, etc.

If it is a paper ticket there should not only be a booking class by each flight but also a fare basis (about 8 letters & numbers).

Sorry about that, I see what you mean now. The fare basis is KVKAX4EB (possibly preceded by an 0 but I think that's in the Status column).

Not quite. OK is your status and VKAX4EB is your fare basis. This means you are in booking class V for all or most flights - a medium economy booking class. V on LH flights usually earns 100% miles (but may earn 70% on some programs).

Your flown distance is about 25838 miles. On any *A program that is not enough for *Gold status, the level where status benefits become significant. On some programs (but not Miles & More) that is enough to qualify for *Silver status. *S benefits are limited and mostly associated with flying that particular airline.

Now if you intend flying a reasonable additional amount on *A within a year (preferably the same calendar year) then could be worthwhile aiming for *G status. If not then just maximise possible award. For that, most likely UA Mileage Plus is best - you can redeem for an award to NZ with the miles you earn on this trip.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.
