Lufthansa A380 - Name It (Win 1 Million Miles & More Miles)

I don't know how the name was inspired, and we'll probably never know unless we ask the winner.

Reading the FT thread on the M&M forum, there are a lot of people who are taking this rather bizarre name as a personal insult. Sour grapes or just confused? Some would even suggest this is a good reason not to fly LH any more.

Does anyone else like me think that kind of reaction is a little bit too off the planet? Some insults have been thrown at the LH CEO and marketing/innovation manager. I hope this doesn't embitter the hospitality of LH (who did a fine job last year) at this year's Star Mega Do 2 party in FRA....

It is amazing how a name can make such a difference in marketing, and people seem to take it seriously. Remember a certain Australian icon tried this and failed...... At least they didn't call it "iPlane 2.0" :P

Have to agree.

Unless there is a German connection that I'm missing, they might as well have called it the Ant, or the Grasshopper.

Generic names for planes need to show strong attributes. Hence why SQ called their plane types "MegaArk/MegaTop", and Qantas named their 747 ER "Longreach" etc.

Being German I can confirm there is no German connection to it, it is just the mortifying outcome of a poorly managed naming process. I think (and hope) this name will never be officially used by Lufthansa again, and everyone will forget about it in a few weeks time (except the happy winner of the contest of course).

Damn… why didn’t I think of that suggestion, bet I would’ve won too!

The name chosen is idiotic.
Maybe so. But it could have been worse, it could have been Lord Bee. Remember there is only one Lady Bee in each hive - the Queen Bee. But there are thousands of males = the drones.

Personally, I'd like them to be more proud of their history, with due deference to certain really unsavory bits, and maybe to have called it something like Michael Wittmann, or something similar, the german albert jacka or ross smith.

And i still call it isnack, if only to annoy SWMBO.

I can confirm that. I thought there may be a German translation which flowed off the lips or otherwise made more sense; I checked the Deutsch version of the page and, what do you know, the only english in the subject matter was ...

drumroll ...

Lady Bee

What a weak name ....... cannot believe they would pick it ....
