Currently sitting in the delta sky lounge with a perfect view, beautiful lunch on offer, a screwdriver and a proper coffee, this is my first trip as gold and I’m never going back! Did I mention I checked 6 bags between two people with delta and no charge at all ...... I’m lovin it.

Oh and forgot to add first class flights via points redemption too, if only I didn’t have to pay for the taxi to get here....

Delta does a good job recognising VA status, same cant be said about Alitalia

I’m guessing if you work for Alitalia you’re probably more worried about where is your next paycheque going to happen than what status a passenger might be.

Some people might say there is a connection but if your employer is on skid row priorities do change.

I tend to buy First when traveling domestic in USA.. compared to Aussie Domestic Businesss Class prices, they’re a bargain, almost comparable to Freedom Fare prices, and you get so much more compared to their Y offering usually (including free bag, though yes, status does help cover that and more...)

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

It’s been very nice, saved heaps of time and stress at the airport having lounges not to mention the $$$ saved on pre flight food and drink.
Staying at Hilton hotels ( thanks to my gold membership through virgin) the whole trip except for one night and luckily got in under the double points bonus which should then pay for my accommodation when I come back in February as I’ll have a bunch of points.

Yes except with United, I purchased first class fares from LAX to MCO since its a 5hr flight but got a rude shock when I found out that there was zero lounge access for first class pax!! Lesson learned I guess...

Yes, I think that's common with all USA airlines. AFAIK, Lounge access is not even available for Status members on Domestic flights... don't they actually have to purchase the Lounge membership to enter the lounge for domestic flights...? (I might be wrong on some of those details...)

Yes, pretty normal whichever airline in the USA. We all make those newbie-type errors (once).

Edit: With AA for example, there’s no USA domestic lounge access based on AA status. Elite status gets discounted Admirals Club annual membership fee. Whereas, QF Gold will gain AC access, based on OneWorld status (but not AA elites, domestically)

I'm not too sure either, it all gets bloody confusing. For example with United long haul international it's the exact opposite. U have to be flying in the pointy end to have access to the Polaris lounges. Go figure!

Just got back from ATL great spotting place in the Delta lounges there great service and always get the points/ credits within 48 hrs

IMHO opinion it is pretty strait forward forward. The following is general and there may be some variances due to specific circumstances.

USA domestic itinerary "First" class on two class flights does not give lounge access. "First" can include Business class fare buckets (J,D,C,I etc.)

If you are a second tier or higher status member of a USA legacy Carrier (Skymiles, AAdvantage, Mileage Plus) then no status or class of service based access to lounges unless on a "defined" international itinerary.

If you are star alliance Gold or oneworld Sapphire/Emerald but not so from Mileage Plus (UA) or AAdvantage (AA) then lounge access before any star alliance or oneworld travel respectively.

If you are a Skyteam Elite Plus then no lounge access unless on an international trip.

Finally, for Velocity Gold/Platinum then lounge access is available at Delta Skyclubs before travel on Delta services.

These last two have caused occasional issues with accessing SkyClubs for Velocity SG/WP since SkyTeam and most Delta partner airline elites don't get lounge access on USA domestic trips - VA is the exception and this can confuse those garding the entry to the hallowed Skyclubs.

We are on the same page @traceyy! Delta lounges and their Sky Priority plus the Hilton Gold status were the best bonus being VA Gold when traveling to the US. Its a pity the Hilton Gold status will only last me a year though. I wonder if we fall back to Silver and then requalify the next year for Gold, will we get another year if Hilton Gold??

If you gain Hilton Gold.you will have that status as a minimum for the remainder of the year you attain Gold and 15 months after that.

So if I redeemed my Hilton gold membership through Velocity in June, I’d have the 6 months of this year PLUS 15 months?

New status (i.e., Gold) for the remainder of the calendar year in which you gained it (2019), then for all of the next calendar year (2020), then until 31st March of the year after that (2021), has been usual. So, that’s a yes to your question. 😀

Terrific! Thanks!
