Tried logging on using the iPad and Thinkpad, both are displaying the telstra login screen that requires paid access to WiFi, hope this is a fault rather than an enhancement, paying for 802.11b would be going back 6 years.

Same at Melbourne, it is a Telstra problem apparently.

Re: No free net in BNE QP via WiFi

Was at ADL QP yesterday, couldn't even find the Telstra AP. So not sure if it is a continuing issue. Fortunately Internode has good coverage of the whole terminal here and could still connect from within the QP (and it's free).

Same here today in Sydney business lounge
Connecting to the telstra point as normal gives a "give us your money" screen

NextGen checkin was also a farce - as a WP it look 3 times longer than it used to, my new card wouldn't work with the bag drop and someone from Qantas incorrectly told me I needed a bag tag despite having my Q tag. Another wasted 10 minutes in a queue as the guy helping at bag drop took it off and told me he'd now have to go and cancel it as otherwise the system would think I had two bags.

Very unimpressed all round !!

I'm inclined to wait a few months until QF's own staff can figure out how NGCI works before trying it out myself.

I get the general impression that QF aren't communicating changes in check-in processes etc to their staff very well; the fact you can use your mobile or Q Card as a boarding pass isn't meant to be a suprise to the gate agents.

Re: No free net in BNE QP via WiFi

Think I might have had this in the SYD J lounge a couple of weeks ago. I remember thinking it was strange. But since I get free telstra wireless access for having an iphone I clicked through to the point of entering my payment details where it then recognised me as being in the QP and gave me free access.

Re: No free net in BNE QP via WiFi

Sounds like it was an Australia wide problem Brisbane International lounge on Saturday didn't have wifi.

Surprising how much we rely on it.

Re: No free net in BNE QP via WiFi

Worked fine in SYD when I was there around 5pm...

Re: No free net in BNE QP via WiFi

It looks like things are back to normal with QP net access, no issues with accessing the service in TSV or CNS today.

I have moved an interesting discussion on the safety of using such a public facility to it's own thread, please kindly post further security questions/comments in that thread:

I appologise if it is a tad messy, I still have my mod L plates on

Re: No free net in BNE QP via WiFi

Sitting in the MEL J lounge right now and it appears to be working (courtesy of a sponsor, of course).

The captive portal seems to have loaded much more quickly than usual, as did the login. The problem I now have is it keeps dropping out (whilst having full signal, sitting on the benches opposite the food serving area). At least it does seem a little faster than it used to, even with the odd drop out).

It wasn't working in exactly the same seat on Sunday morning.

Usually I'm on my 3G internet because QF internet sucks, but lately I try the QF interwebs just to see if it's quick.

4 Dec - BNE, no free wifi
20 Dec - BNE, no free wifi
21 Dec - MEL, no free wifi
21 Dec - BNE, no free wifi

Also noticed it last month in BNE..

This is connecting to the usual 'Telstra' option (as there are no others to connect to).

Is free internet being "enhanced" ?

In CBR J lounge last week I couldn't see any networks to connect to. About 10 minutes later it worked. Also had problems last week in SYD J lounge but managed to connect after lots of retries. I know that often the network isn't the easiest to connect to and retrieve an IP address for but lately I would agree it's been less reliable.

Maybe there is some reconfiguration going on across the board. Let's hope that it is for upgrades to better connections!

Sydney working fine on 1st December which is when I last tried to use it. Normal Telstra deal - connect then firefox to accept T&Cs.

took me a few goes the last time I was in Sydney, started with the pay site but eventually went to the free one

Wouldnt work at all in SYD T3 for me yesterday, but worked fine in BNE in the morning. (trippin_the_rift were you there in the evening?)

Perhaps it's dropping out once there's too much demand (it wasnt busy in the morning).

Worked in MEL J lounge last sunday AM.

I find that it takes an extremely long time (A good 4-5 minutes) getting to the 'Telstra Connect' page, but after that, wifi runs smoothly ... anyone else experience the same thing?

I find the same thing although my connection will often drop once or twice in the middle of a session and then I need to wait for the Telstra page to come up again.

Yep, certainly experienced that, and also the drop outs. The speed is painstaking slow during the morning and late afternoon rushes.
