Hi, I'm ready to travel now I have some time, we love to visit the lounges so are looking at the best way to do this. We are looking to get a new credit card but I'm so confused as to which one we should go for. I like the idea of the Priority pass and wondering if its best just to purchase a membership or get one through a credit card. I liked the look of the Westpac Black not sure if there are any others similar? We will travel business class at times but also economy. Would love some feedback cheers.

if you're flying business then you'll get lounge access with the airline 99% of the time.
for those Y flights yes priority pass lounges can come in handy. most creditcards offer a couple of visits free per year then the other are charged

this one from bankwest offers 10 visits free per year (you will have to read the fine print if your partner will be charged). this uses the loungekey network

Note that what you want out of that Business travel may mean you’re happy to travel in a more Premium Economy style cabin between Australia & Asia and then fly “proper business” from there. Friends semi-recently bought ”business” seats on a low-cost carrier (can’t recall which … Scoot or AirAsia or similar) between Sydney & Singapore and it was I think around $1k return … you don’t get fancy food or drink, you don’t get a lie-flat seat (but during the day does that matter?), onboard entertainment is bad or not available (they always take their own anyway), and you don’t get lounge access so THIS is where having access can come into play. They have an AmEx which gives them access to AmEx lounges, which aren’t as nice as a First lounge but which apparently are generally OK (you’d have to check for shower access where you were planning to go I think - a shower in the middle of a pair of flights spanning 26hrs is a surprisingly wonderful thing).

They effectively get all the things you want for a Business flight (the comfort & the lounge really - the food & drink are only $50 cafe-meal spec in Business & lounges) but for less than Economy costs on a Qantas or a Singapore Airlines etc etc.

And Business fares are often waaaay cheaper from Asia, to most of the rest of the world, than Australia. I have plans for retirement soon-ish, and my plan is to find daytime flights to/from Asia and maybe spend a few days in those Asian hub-airport cities if different-airline flights don’t line up nicely.

Oh, and to add even more confusion, depending on destination you might research whether there are lounges that have a one-off paid-entry. Credit cards with lounge access or passes, and Priority Pass membership, can be considerably more than one-off entry-fees if you only fly a few times a year.

Thanks this is exactly what I'm planning to do :) Just need to work out which C/C is the best for me. cheers

Tried to apply for Westpac platinum black, yeah what fun! Went into the branch who were unable to help because of lack of staff, gave me a "cards number" to call. Rang the number, everything to be done online and nobody to talk to. Tried customer service, same message. I just wanted a few questions answered! jeez! Even tried online chat! auto bot advised to apply online.

Consider as well, if buying a cheap return to Asia to start your business class journey, whether you could just buy 2 x lounge access for Australia? Might work out a lot cheaper than getting a credit card!

Lounge access in Asia for the return is also pretty cheap.

Yes considered this, however I do need a c/c and I also travel a few times from Perth to the East so would like to take advantage of the lounges. Thanks for your reply :)

Cards with lounge access cost a reasonable whack more than those without; you really need to want a lot of the benefits of those cards for them to become cost-effective.

I know very little about this stuff, but I’ve only heard of Amex lounges in international terminals, mebbe worth checking or asking in here?
*edit*
Looks like Perfs domestic is Virgin which looks decent; Sydney is Rex though, which looks like you wouldn’t wanna be hungry (looks like they have stuff like the packs of 2 Ritz and a slice of cheese, and dried noodle packs). So there are domestic AmEx lounges.
