Hi,

Current status is QF Gold.

I have an EWR-DFW-LAX flight on AA soon which qualifies me for WP.

5 hours after this I have an LAX-SYD flight with QF.

I have searched AFF quite a bit but I can't make sense of the lounge options. Any advice?

  1. Would I be able to prove WP status by showing a print out of my QFF status page and my inbound boarding passes at LAX? If so, which lounge is the best? The OW F Lounge at T4?
  2. If they won't accept the above as proof of WP status what are my next best options? Qantas Business lounge at TBIT or T4?

What is the arrival Terminal and time? I suspect T4 and as I presume they are not on the same Ticket, ample time would be given.

Personally I find TBIT OW lounge quite good, others will tell you to stay at T4.

I don't think your mileage / status will be credited in time nor will be accepted by LD. However happy to be proved wrong.

WP will get you into OW F and the Flagship Lounge, however if you are unable to prove OWE then it's AC Admirals Club.

Look at security and the time required to move around and whether you bags will be interlined through to SYD.

I think you are correct. It's hard to tell on the AA site but the same flight number arrives at T4 today & tomorrow.

QF12 Departs from terminal "B" according to the booking details on qf.com, which I presume is TBIT.

Yes. Basically zero % chance of WP status being credited. My observation over the past couple of weeks in the US is that AA/QF points are batch processed between 2am-4am west coast time - but only for flights that boarded prior to 4pm-ish that day.

It's a shame really. Have done a lot of BIS time and it'd be nice to take advantage of it before my long flight home.

You will arrive at T4 and depart from TBIT.

Like the previous poster I doubt your status will change to WP in time for the flight back to Oz.

Since you are SG, I would suggest that with a 5 hour interlude, you have a look at the T4 A/C for an hour or so before heading off to TBIT on the Qantas bus¹. Have a look around, get a couple of drink vouchers etc. Not much real "Food" at the A/C - it should be more substantial at the TBIT Business class lounge.

(Of course, with that time frame you might like to walk around instead - but that means re-clearing security at TBIT)

(¹Departs T4 gate 44 on the hour and every half hour from 4pm.)

If one was to leave the airport, where would one go and would you need say a minimum of 8 hours?

A cab to Santa Monica would take around 20-25 minutes. You could get a decent feel for the area with time for a feed if you had 5 or more hours to kill.

Would recommend having "Priority Access" for the security check on your return however as the wait can seemingly be unpredictable otherwise.

(Note: Basing my travel estimate on the fact that a public metro bus took 40 minutes to get there from just outside the airport)
