Hi, I have searched to find my answer on various fora but can't find an answer to my particular query. Apologies if this has been covered before.

I am travelling MEL-DOH-LHR return soon in Business on Qatar (ticket with lounge access). My wife is unfortunately going to be stuck in Economy on the same flights (don't ask). We are both at Silver level in PC just now but will hit Gold at some stage on the trip. We have 2 guest passes available in each of our accounts.
I lose my QFF gold status in March - before we travel.

I wonder what lounge access I am likely to be able to get for my wife at Mel, DOH and LHR.

Do business class tickets allow an accompanying guest or would I need to use a guest pass?
Which lounge is used in MEL and is it worth using a guest pass for it?
Can I get my wife in Al-Mourjan lounge in doha with a guest pass or would we need to use an alternative lounge?
I am pretty sure I would achieve Gold status by the time we touch down in Doha on the outward leg depending one when they credit the Q points - if not, definitely on the return leg. Does that change options for us?

Thanks

Wife can access Silver Lounge (South) FOC under her own steam. You or your wife can't use guest pass for yourself/herself - hasto be a guest of the person with eligible access to a lounge.
But you can use one of your guest passes to guest her into your lounge - which is Gold/Platinum/Al Mourjan.

...I think....

But QR doesn't allow a guest into their lounges if in J. must have status.
In fact if in J on a P class business ticket with QR no lounge access for you as well.

We had this situation of lounge access with EK last year as we were on a J saver fare which doesn't come with lounge access. Fortunately the lounge we wanted was at SIN and Mrsdrron was still WP so we could access the EK lounge. The EK sale fare was cheaper than the QR one but we might well have flown QR if we really couldn't access an EK lounge.

Thankfully my ticket is one that comes with lounge access. It looks like my Wife can access the silver lounge but it doesn’t seem clear in the Ts&Cs if I can use a guest pass to get her into the Al mourjan lounge to which I have access. It says access requires a premium ticket but it’s not clear if they mean mine or both. if She had a J ticket she wouldn’t require a guest pass.

i should “turn“ gold by the arrival in DOH and it looks like I could guest her into the Gold lounge then without a guest pass. Still not sure about the AM.

all a bit confusing.

does anyone have any info about the lounge at Melbourne and would I be correct in thinking as OW gold, on our return I could guest her in to either the Qatar FF lounge or the qantas lounge?

QR operates from LHR T4, so similar problem as DOH as far as the “Premium” lounge access goes I would assume. Hopefully the guest passes work there and DOH. I believe there is a QF FF lounge for non F/J PAX (including QR Silver). So that would work.

Accessing QF, AA and CX wouldn’t be practical.

The guest passes can only be used in Doha.

QR operates out of T4 in LHR. They have two separate lounges side by side. You would have access to the J lounge (no guest allowed) or FF lounge and your wife access to the FF lounge. . No guest pass use.
QF doesn’t have a lounge in T4 and there are no other One World lounges there.

Thanks to everyone for the help and advice. Seems my wife can access the lounge in Melbourne thanks to her silver status. In Doha I can't use the guest passes for Al Mourjan at all - (only J or paid access if economy). We can both get into the silver FF lounge and I have access to Gold and Platinum FF lounges. I think I can take my wife in as a guest to either of these if I turn gold on arrival in DOH or I can use a pass I think to the gold lounge so we can be together.

Our layover on the way outwards is 4.5 hours from 4:30am so it may just be worth paying the money for access to the Al Mourjan - less so on the way back which is a shorter layover. What do people think? Would paying to get in be worth it over the other freely available lounges?

On our way back we can both get into the FF lounge in LHR (and maybe I can have a wee peek at the better wines in the J lounge!!).

At least it seems we can sit together while we wait between each flight.

Well, I wouldn't pay to use the AM lounge at DOH. For one, it's expensive, and at that time of the morning it's likely to be crowded (so no fun at all).

I'd just go for whatever lounge you can access for free and enjoy. Others may disagree...
