Lounge etiquette - sleeping in lounges

Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I have slept on the floor or seats of AKL, CHC, SIN, BKK, KUL and HKG airports. I'm lucky that I don't need to lay down to sleep.

I have also slept in the KrisFlyer Gold lounge in SIN more times than I care to remember. In T3 there's an area at the back where they have bench/sofa style seating and all 3 of us have slept there. In T2 I have put 2 seats/sofas together and have slept there.

I've forgotten if any of the above experiences have caused any discomfort. The money saved is more important to me. Looks like plan for Jun/2024 is also going to mean 5-6 hour transit after midnight on SIN. I'm not wasting money on hotel.

SWMBO has slept in the old QF First lounge in SYD after an early morning arrival from BKK and before leaving to AKL, and in the CX Cabin in HKG between arriving from SYD and a 1.40am or thereabouts departure to TLV, both times with blankets and pillows supplied by the staff.

Times for sleeping don't mean a lot when you are travelling long haul!

I have deliberately or inadvertently fallen asleep in various lounges esp on long transits....I ALWAYS set àn alarm. ;)

You don’t need to shout. I can hear you 😂
ATH is the code for Athens airport.
OMG stands for Oh My God which is very early in the morning departures.
Hard of hearing enabled keyboard.

I've slept in the QF Business lounge in CBR a few times after a looong week.
Only overnight sleep was in a lounge somewhere in India - had an incredibly late arrival and early departure, but the time wasn't long enough for work to have to book us a hotel.

The excellent 24-hour MH Golden Lounge in KL has sleeping spaces, and overnight, it's very quiet and easy to sleep half-upright in one of the many armchair sofas too (which is the only time I've tried sleeping in a lounge). On another note, I still think that's one of the best lounges I've been in for the food, design, service, and more - I was more impressed with that one than QF First in Sydney (sorry!).

I have also accidentally fallen asleep in a chair against the back wall in the Qantas Club in Melbourne after an international connection, only to wake up and see my flight was on final call. After running to the front, the lounge staff phoning the gate to let them know I was on my way saved the day!

I recently had an early morning flight out of Changi and only had access to the Marhaba lounge. It was around 6:00am and the lounge was full of people using 2-4 chairs to create makeshift beds, no shoes on, some in sleepwear. Many came prepared with their own blankets and blankets. There was nowhere to sit, every chair was taken by someone sleeping. It looked, and smelt like a backpackers dorm.
