Five of us are flying from Cairns to Hong Kong tomorrow on Cathay Pacific, one has Qantas club membership so he will take his wife to the Q Club lounge, two have complimentary Cathay Pacific Marco Polo access privleges (2 vouchers) CPX has reciprical rights with Qantas lounge access (I think), the third single guy has none, do you think they will allow the 5 of us lounge access?.

Cathay does use the CNS international QP.Cathay Pacific - At The Airport : Lounges

I'm not sure any will be permitted lounge access unless thay are SG, WP, CL, oneworld Sapphire or oneworld Emerald.

I looked here: Flying with Us - Qantas Club - Lounge Access and did not see anything regarding lounge access for QP member when travelling on CX.

I do not know if the MPC vouchers will allow access.

Perhaps asking nicely could help. :)

Qantas Club membership only permits access to the Qantas Club lounge when departing on a Qantas flight. So technically the Qantas Club member and his wife will not have access to the lounge when departing on a CX flight. If he was a Qantas Gold FF member, or a OneWorld Sapphire member through any other OneWorld FF program, he would have access to the lounge based on OneWorld benefits.

I would not assume the Qantas Club will permit entry using CX passes. CX business class passengers and status MPC members can use the Qantas Club lounge prior to the CX flight, but I would not assume they will accept the CX passes. Certainly Qantas Club Complimentary Invitations would not be accepted at a CX lounge and are clearly marked as for entry to Qantas Club locations only. I expect the CX MPC invitations will be similarly marked. This is not a "reciprocal rights" issue.

So do not be surprised if none of you have access to the lounge.

Two of us have CPX BC upgrade and 2 vouchers for their Marco Polo lounges, but as you say, QC may not let any of us into their Cairns lounge, but HKG CPX lounge for 2 no problem, I guess QC have their own lounge in HKG?. So 2 can go to CPX and 2 to QC, our single friend can go to public bar! (just joking). Oh' the 2 couples are flying using FF points the single is a paid economy fare.

I managed to convince the QC staff to let me in on a CX ticket the other day, but that trip was going to take me to QF Gold / OW Sapphire anyway when i would have been able to get access. But as it was a CX ticket into the QC is a no go. CX flight if its a QF ticket is ok.

Did they know you were about to become a QF/GOLD/OW Sapphire?.

I have good communiction skills so it will be interesting conversation, this is how we obtained a stack of dosh and these free upgrades + on our last HKG trip from CPX.

If two of you are travelling J (BC) then you will have Lounge access for those two.

If you have CX Business Class boarding passes, then you have lounge access and don't need any other passes.

The Qantas Club in HKG operates to the same rules as any other Qantas Club and to have access a Qantas Club member must be departing on a Qantas flight. So of you are flying with CX out of HKG, then no Qantas Club access is available.

Nah, i said my travel agent booked CX instead of QF, told them i was going to make the status this trip when they looked to hesitate and think about it, i showed them my QP life membership card and my boarding pass and they just said that it was ok, warned me i would not have final boarding calls as it was not a codeshare flight.
